I wouldn't go with oat meal yet. I'm in the same boat...surgery was June 14. I use sugar free popscicles, fudgescicles and dreamscicles if I want something that I don't have to drink. They're just liquid in a different form. Another suggestion that someone gave me before surgery was to get a snow cone maker or ice shaver and use to make snow cones with some of the sweeter protein drinks. It hslps a little with the taste and gives you something that has some substance to it.

Oatmeal still might be a bit heavy. Try applesauce and very wet scrambled eggs if you absolutely cannot wait. I just couldn't go several weeks without something semi-solid either, but try to be responsible about being irresponsible. ;) You could try a bit of banana and just chew the HECK out of it. -- Jennifer

do EXACTLY what your surgeon told you to do. It is hard, I actually sucked on barbecued sunflower seeds and spit them out, but the doctors are the experts... listen to them. They are the reason we are given this chance.

Continue to follow your doctor's orders until otherwise instructed. You don't want to jump the gun too soon and place your system in distress. It's going to be a few weeks yet before you can do the oatmeal thing.

Hi..I tried a spoonful of yogurt here and there. Also some really creamy cottage cheese. Couldn't eat much of it. Just a bite or two and that's it. Some others had Farina and it worked fine for them. I actually still have the box that I never even opened. :) Good luck

I came home after surgery- on Mushy foods. Stayed with muchy foods for a month. So do the s/f jello- it will only be 2/3 bites max. Scrambled eggs with cheese/ applesauce/ I waited on bananas.. chicken broth with saltine crackers..dry thin crackers are good. Even cup of soup like lipton chicken- was good- wth the tiny O's .but Im sure you will do better DRINKING.. here is a suggestion for that: get some Mango Peach Isopure liquid- mix it wth Propel Peach water- and you will get some awesome protein in. ALSO try unflavored Protein- from GNC- one scoop=21gms. Mix that with PROPEL or even jello or even yogurt- and you will do splendid. Dont matter if it takes you all day to get your water & protein in- just dont be like me- and figuring this out at 10mos postop! :-) But I am -115lbs..but someone should hae told me to keep it simple- water or drinks & even soup with this unflavored protein- it just works! I wish I had discovered it sooner! Good Luck! Donna

I wasnt allowed any thing like oatmeal until I was 4 weeks out and then it had to be runny. YOU should do whatever your doctor set up for you. Didnt you get an eating plan to go by? Please follow the doctors instructions.

Follow your surgeon's orders. that is what you are paying him or her for! Your pouch and insides need time to heal fully before you eat solid food.

If you have to have something solid I would suggest chinese egg drop soup as this early stage in your recovery. It is actually not so much a solid but it has the texture that you are craving. I had that once my first week out and then I was ok until my dr advised I could advance to soft foods. Good luck on your journey Kendra

My Dr. let us have cream reduced fat soup run through a blender. Also Oatmeal, cream of wheat -run through a blender first. I mixed it with fat free milk and some dry carnation nonfat milk, to up the protien. I ate baby food strained first step into my second week, for some variety, my dr got mad, but it didn't seem to hurt me, and it kept me from hurting some one lol peggy

Hey there! I was told that I could have oatmeal during the first part of my recovery, only I had to put it in a blender! So what I did was put the dry oatmeal into the coffee grinder and got it really fine. I added water and nuked it and added more water and milk (with some Splenda) until it was a fairly thin consistency. It wasn't wonderful but it was a change. I also cheated with some chicken soup! (Which wasn't really cheating - because I was off the all-liquid phase as soon as I was released from the hospital). Good luck to you!

You can make Knox Blox from SF Jello . . . extra stiff Jello. Something to chew, but counts as a liquid.
