Question:
Anxious before surgery???

I was wondering if anyone has gotten a shot of something in there IV when you get to the hospital the day of surgery that makes you loopey? I'm excited for surgery but just nervous about the hospital stuff!    — HAILEY (posted on March 21, 2006)

Oh Hell yes!! I had something put into my IV to help with the nerves. Dont worry, you will be nervous and anxious but just ask for something!! I did not feel "loopey" it just made me feel more relaxed!! When is your surgery? Good Luck

Hailey- don't worry your anestheologist will give you something - usually what they give you also gives you a bit of amensia about the situation- the last thing any of us medical types want is for your stress to rise too high -

I had my Lap-Band procedure a week ago today. I am really afraid of needles and was given "gas" to relax me.....WONDERFUL! Never felt the IV going in and don't remember much after that. Best Wishes and just remember to breath! MF

Surprisingly, I was not nervous or anxious. I had made up in my mind that this was the only way the weight was going to come off. However, I was given a pill when I arrived at the hospital. It kicked in quickly. All I remember is being wheeled into the operating room, switching to another bed and finally having the doctor call my name and saying it was over. You'll be fine. Best of everything and my prayers will be with you.

I have not had my WLS yet, but I have had plenty of other surgeries where I was really nervous just before surgery. Tell your doctor how you feel. I have had Versed and Valium. Don't be shy and speak up about it!!
