Question:
Instead of Milk post op?

I really cannot stand to drink milk, and I have read one must have skimmed milk to drink and protein after surgery- what can I do instead of drinking milk?    — dorisdenton (posted on February 22, 2006)

Hello I am almost eight months post op and I just have to tell you that I don't drink skim milk. I use 1% organic milk which is so much better. I've lost 122 pounds so far. So I guess the one percent hasn't hurt me. They only say that you should use skim because it's fat free and has less calories. I also use soy milk. It's good to mix protein shakes with. I use the eighth continent fat free vanilla. It's very good. But I have to tell you that organic milk sure makes a difference in flavor so give it a try. I hope i've helped. Jeannie

I don't think many people do make their protein drinks with milk, unless they need to boost their caloric intake. Look for some to make with water. Have you tried a milk substiture, such as Carb Countdown or soy milk?

There are lots of products that you do not need milk for. Such as Nectar brand protein. Lots of fruit flavors and one that tates like Ice Tea. Check out www.bariatriceating.com for a great selection. I use mainly Nectar and Matrix. If I must use milk I sure non-fat lactose free.

lactaid..or if it's just the TASTE of milk you don't like, try making your Matrix or Elite proteins into hot chocolate type drinks

You don't NEED milk. Many of us were lactose intolerant before surgery. I haven't used milk for 12 yrs. I use protein with water for my protein and calcium citrate for my calcium. I give skim milk to my dad to help him gain wt, though.

Milk is a great source of calcium so I tried to drink it after surgery. I have never liked milk so I thought this would be a challange. But, because I found a super protein supplement (Unjury) it was like drinking chocolate milk. I loved it with skim milk. Now at over 2.5 years out I mostly drink the Unjury mixed into Fat Free Hotcocoa. It is YUMMY! In the early days I also used the Unflavored a lot and the Vanilla. The vanilla was excellent in skim milk or in puddings. www.unjury.com Good luck!

Doris, I mix my protein with water or decaf coffee, I don't use the milk because of too much sugar.Vitalady has a cappaccino and a cinnamon vanilla protein that are excellent mixed with either water or decaf coffee, chocolate is good too. Good luck Pam
