Question:
bloodwork
Does anyone know if the hospital does more bloodwork the day of your surgery? — cuppaloopy (posted on October 16, 2009)

Mine check potassium. If your potassium is low, surgery does not happen.
It is too dangerous but I have not heard of anyone's being low.

Mine did take a little blood before they put in the IV.

They do not. If you review your OHIP Approval, it states that any lap, ECG
tests, etc. is to be done in Canada as they do not cover the costs. This
is why it's important to have all your tests submitted to your surgeon at
least 1 week prior to your surgery date. At least that's how it is with my
surgeon.

I must have had blood drawn because the doctor advised me that I could stop
my diabetes medication the day I went home. My hemaglobinA1C test was 5.5
which is great.
