Question:
Has anyone ever had side pain?
I am not sure if I have ever seen this question on here. I had RNY on 4/17/09, I have lost 80lbs and have not had any problems except with eating chicken and pork. It seems like the more I loose the more pain I have on my sides, like in the rib area. It mostly happens when I am sitting, but does not go away if I stand up and stretch it out. I thought it was muscle, but I don't know. Somebody mentioned to me that it could be from vomiting, but I have only vomited once in the last month or so, so that can't be it. Has anyone else experienced something like this? — colabear32x (posted on October 12, 2009)

I am having the same issue. It is only on my left side (into my back). Part
of me says I am not drinking enough fluids (guilty) and I am just
dehydrated. Then I also hear that this is where your liver is. I am
wondering the same thing you are.... What can it be so I am anxious to see
what others are saying. :)

Even though the gall bladder is on the right, I've found that gall stones
can cause pain all over, even my left side. If you still have your gall
bladder, that could be all or part of your problem. Good luck.

In my support group, they always tell any post-up with pain of any kind to
call the surgeon. You never know if it's just something you should put up
with... or if it could be something that the doc can and should look at.
Call your surgeon's office and ask about your symptoms--they've heard a lot
of it before and may be able to help you right away.

youshould cotact your clinic or physician asap..you never know. But I do
get some pain from slouching..I try not slouch ..as you say..stretching it
out makes it go away. I think as we lose muscle..cuz we do lose some...our
posture changes and we need to relearn to sit right. Best of luck to you!

I get major pain in both sides when I over eat or eat something that does
not agree with me. Not sure why but my doctor said not to worry about it.
It is painful and it only goes away after a hour or so. Nothing you can do
about it though.

I would contact your surgeon immediately. I am a firm believer in not
ignorning things. I speak from experience because back in late August I had
some severe abdominal pain on my left side right where the majority of my
bypass was done back in January of this year and it hurt so bad I couldnt
sleep and it hurt to even breathe in. I was so scared something had
happened to my pouch so my husband took me to the ER and it turned out to
be that I had a abdominal hernia and my intestines had become twisted and
were protruding through the hole in my abdominal wall. That being said you
never really know what could be going on inside your body until you go have
it checked out. Any prolonged pain such as yours should be checked out.
Hope you find your answer soon.

Maybe it because you have to have a BM I know that when I get full I have
that pain, but as soon as it all out then it cramps and goes away. I hope
this helps alittle.
