Question:
plavix question
Is there anyone out there that had gastric bypass surgery and never stopped taking plavix during the surgery. — cuppaloopy (posted on August 27, 2009)

Since you haven't gotten any answers, I suspect that there isn't anyone out
there who continued to take Plavix during surgery. I haven't had my WLS
yet, but I've had a lot of other surgeries. The hospital always has you
stop anything that acts as a blood thinner, even aspirin, two weeks before
surgery. They want to make sure that your blood WILL clot during/after
surgery. You can resume your medications shortly after surgery.

Thanks for your answer. Your probaly right. My cardiologist insist that I
stay on it because I have a stent in my heart and he said the stent could
clot if I go off of plavix.

I've recently had WLS, and my cardiologist had no problem with my
discontinuing Plavix and 81mg aspirin 7 days prior to surgery. I didnt get
back on it until 2 wks post op. I also have 1 stent, and she never
mentioned concerns about it. I've had several procedures since the stent,
and have always stopped the Plavix prior to them. Good luck.

I've been on Plavix since March 2004. I had the stent placed in Feb 2004.
