Hi,
I had the RNY 3.5 yrs ago and lost 90 lbs and have kept it off. It is
pretty challenging to get all of your protein in right after surgery, but I
did it. How you ask? Sip, sip, sip, all day long, every five minutes take
a sip. You will feel like all you do is sip, but actually, it is all you
will be doing to get your protein in and your water. They are very
important at this point so you don't get dehydrated. When you say you are
sick all the time, what do you mean? If you can be more specific we can
answer that part of your question in more detail. But, I want to say if
you are throwing up sick, call your doctor. Call your doctor anyway and
let him know you are sick. Congrats on your weight loss, that is great.
take care, hope this helped you.

I had my RNY 6/3/09 so am 2 weeks out. I buy EAS CarbAdvantage drinks @
Wal Mart or Kroger. They have 17 grams protein. I like the french vanilla
best and I add a carton of yogurt which usually has 6 or 7 grams and that
give a total of 24 in one drink. I also add vanilla flavoring. It's great
compared to some of the stuff I've tried to get down. I get sick to my
stomach just thinking about some of them. Good luck and hang in
there..we'll make it.

I drink the IDS new whey liquid protein 42g, half in the morning and 1/2 in
the afternoon. 0 carbs 0 sugars. I had hit a plateau and as soon as I
started getting in enough protein using the liquid protein I started losing
again.

Hi! Congrats on the surgery and loss. I use Unjury unflavored powder for
my protein. I drank 1 scoop in milk early on and that was 20 grams from
unjury and 10oz of skim milk is 10 oz protein. so that was 30 total..I did
one in the early evening also. it took me a while to drink it all, but I
did it. Now a days, I use the unflavored in flavored water. I make 1 drink
in the morning and have it before hitting the pc. I am drinking it now! lol
I am 1 year out today, Yay!! I still use the shake to get my protein in,
but I don't have to, I prefer to. Best of luck to you! Hugs, kim

I could barely meet my protein requirements the first 3 mos...My Nut was
against protein supplements after 3 mos... (when you should be able to eat
at least 60 grams of protein a day)...Til then she wanted us to use protein
supplements ONLY until we could eat it in real food...I became lactose
intolerant shortly after RNY surgery and had no idea that was what the
trouble was...Whey gave me the most horrible gas and gas pains. (Probiotics
helped with cheeses and dairy, and switching to isolated whey ONLY!) No
lactose in isolated whey! I felt nauseous after drinking protein supps
often between the lactose in whey and I became intolerant to sugar alcohols
and some artificial sweeteners...So it's often hit or miss how a protein
supp hits me! The ONLY whey I was able to tolerate the first three months
was the Isopure (no carb) clear glass bottles...Each one has 42 g's of
protein...I was able to drink one of those over the course of a day and eat
a few tablespoons of protein to make up next 18 for a total of 60 g's a
day...After 3 months, I ate ALL my protien in food...And I didn't touch a
single protein supplement again til year 4...The ONLY reason I have a
protein supplement now at year 4-5 is because I use it as replacement for
coffee creamer and breakfast to keep calories, fat and carbs down! Some
say that you can only absorb 30 gs of protein at a time, the rest is just
an expensive waste...literally...I cannot find proof of this...But my
Registered Dietician told us this (some 6 years ago) It just makes sense to
me...so I believe it and go by that...Her plan worked for me and I have
lost 150 lbs and kept it off for 5.4 years now! So I must be doing
something right! You cannot expect to eat 60 g of protein right
away...Work your way up to it! You'll get there! Congrats on your 24 lbs!
Good job! have all your questions writeen down for your doc appt too! This
way you don't forget anything and kick yourself later!
