Question:
How do you stop the weight loss

I have lost 578 pounds altogether. I am now at 220 and still losing around 10 pounds amonth in past 8 months. I can still only hold around one cup of food at a time and that's if I push it. I don't want to lose any more weight, just maintain. Any suggestions?    — Tammy V. (posted on April 18, 2009)

What does your doctor say, and how much are you supposed to weigh, more or less? When you get there, your body will know it and probably stop the weight loss on its own. If not, you may need surgical intervention. btw- I read your journal and was truly inspired...

This may sound weird but I wish I had your problem. I started 290 when I had RNY surgery in 2004. I only lost 60 lbs within 4 months and have since gained 32 of those pounds back during the last few years. I can eat like a normal person. When I started my journey, I was afraid of losing too much weight (I only wanted to lose 100 to 110 lbs) and so I was happy when I could eat more. But the plan backfired and I'm even more bad off than when I started because before surgery, I was a firm person, but now I have some flappy skin and I don't like it. I wish you the best on your success and you have come a long way. Congratulations!

At 220, you're most likely still in the obese category. So sounds like you're fortunate to be losing still.

Wow Tammy--you go girl! Don't be afraid to keep going! If your body wants to keep losing, listen to it. You are truly inspiring--reading your blogs shows how truly blessed you are. Keep playing and living! Just let it keep happening for yourself. Before long, you will be in the ONEDERLANDS! Hard to imagine a few short years ago, right? Good luck!

Tammy-You are definitely an inspiration to me! I can't wait to be in your shoes. My surgeon and I are talking about August. As far as losing weight, I wish I had your problem. What does your doctor and nutritionist say?

I have wondered the same thing. I had WLS May 2008 and am now wearing a size 4 and they are a bit baggy. I have not had any type of plastic surgery to deal with loose skin and I think if i did, I would most likely wear a size 2 or 3 pants. Today before reading your post, I found a website that allows one to calculate the amount of calories needed to maintain body weight based on age, height, and activity level. I found out that I do need significantly more calories than I am currently getting per day to stop losing. So now the chore is to become more balanced in what I eat and secure that eating a bit more is not going to cause me to gain all the weight back. That is the hard part for me--those old fears creeping back in. http://walking.about.com/cs/calories/l/blcalcalc.htm Maybe you should discuss your current weight and if or how to slow the process with your doctor. Best of luck to you and you are SUCH an inspiration! --Kathrynann
