Hi there, I too am 6 wks post op from open RNY. I have had the same problem with nausea and vomiting. I think for some of us this stays around longer. I haven't felt like exercising since I'm sick most of the time. Hang in there, I have a feeling it gets better. Good Luck! -Martina

You might want to call your surgeons office and tell them what is going on...They may want to see you or they may tell you that this happens to some and it does get better... My point is that only your surgeon can help you if something is wrong and he's the one you need to talk to at this point...Skipping meals is NOT a good or normal thing to do...and neither is vomiting your meals...Call your surgeon and keep trying to eat...If you are eating dairy (which most start with because they are softer foods) and that is what is making you sick, it could be lactose intolerance...or too much fat can cause nausea too...Try something low fat and lactose free and see if that helps...BUT...still call the doc! I don't know about the incision...I had open RNY and my incision/insides hurt for a year!

The incision site can hurt for several months. Try to go easy on the treadmill at least for a while. Call you doctor about the food issue. They should be able to help you find foods you can eat. They may even have something to help the nausea. I know I had trouble and waited to talk to them and my doctor said I should have called sooner and they could have helped.

You might want to call your surgeons and/or docs to find out why you can't seem to eat much. Also give the treadmill a rest. Six weeks is a bit early to be exercising and if you feel sick anyway I would not do that until I found out what was going on. Good Luck and God Bless, vinnigirl, retired RN

I agree calling your Dr. is the first thing to do. My inscision was still sore around 6 weeks you have to ive those muscles and stuf time to heal. Check on the lactose intolerance I had that at first and the over the counter meds work for that. Hope all gets better for you fast.

Toniann, I am 11 mos. post op having lost 90 lbs. I too was sick. Mine lasted for 3-4 months. This is not uncommon. My surgeon ordered an upper GI for me but that came back normal. I had to really watch what I ate. At 6 weeks is when I was able to start eating regular food. Up until that point it was 3 weeks of liquid, and 3 weeks of soft or pureed food. One of my first meals was fish that had been cooked with a few spices including black pepper. I ate a little until I could tell it was bothering me. I was sick for 3 days after that. Another time I tried to have a chicken breast with some B-B-Q sauce on it. I had two bites and threw it up and was sick for 4 days. It was after t5hat I had my upper G.I. To this day I can't eat anything spicy or with black pepper without getting sick. My Dr. says it's quite normal in many WLS patients. So just hang in there, it will get better, but you might always have a few things you can't eat. Small price to pay for getting skinny. Paula B.
