Question:
Someone help me

I am not sure where to place this question.I am having some post operative problems that have been going on and off since my Lap-band procedure. I had my teeth pulled 6 months before surgery and immediately was with dentures, when i had my lapband donethe dentures were loose because I had lost almost 50 lbs, I didnt think nothing of it, since then I have had my dentures religned 3 times and now have been told they cannot be done anymore. I was experiencing digestive problems at first, well at least not all that bad but within the last year I had hernia repair and have been on a plateau and I am having problems keeping food down. I have been adjusted several times and now have been told that I shouldnt have even gotten the lapband that I should have had the gastric bypass done, and have even made an agreement with the new surgeon assistant that if i do not lose weight after getting new dentures and waiting a year that gastric bypass can and will be done is anyone having any lapband problems or has anyone had the lapband done and then after some time had the full gastric bypass?    — CheyenneBreeze (posted on January 10, 2009)

A lot of people do a revision from Lap band to Gastric Bypass (RNY most commonly)...Visit the revisions board under forums...You'll find many there!

Hi Jenni, thanks for writing. I have heard many people regret doing the Lap Band for similar reasons. The Lab Band can be a good tool for many people, but it doesn't help everyone. It is easy to cheat youself right back into old habits. No matter which surgery you choose, you have to fight to lose weight. I did a lot of research prior to having my surgery (I am almost 5 years post op from RNY) on both lap band and rny. My husband and I liked the lap band, but I chose rny in the end because I said to my husband that risks aside, I just felt I needed the mal absorptive quality of the RNY and I needed the consequences of eating too much or the "dumping" or feeling bad when I had sugar. I needed to have a consequence to stop the junk, and I also knew that I could cheat myself into not losing weight with the lap band. I thought I had a better chance of losing weight with the RNY. After a lot of research and a great deal of prayer, that is what we decided together. It was the best decision for me. I would have not thought about dentures either, but maybe you should check with a 2nd opinion about adjusting them. If they adjust for free, then they are probably just tired of servicing your dentures, but if you pay for the adjustments, I don't know why they would care how many times they are adjusted. If you can fight through the diet and exercise and drink your water, you can still lose a lot of weight with the band. Neither surgery is easy. Both surgeries require guts to stay on track. Tools help, but it does not fix the lust in our heads for food. At five years out, I still lust for food, I still struggle. I am still thankful too for keeping off over 100 pounds. Take care, Patricia P.

I have the LAP Band right now and I am in the process of getting my date for RNY. It did not work for me at all... I actually weigh more now then I did when I actually had the LAP Band surgery. The process is going very smoothly for me!
