Are there any ways to get your Ins Provider to pay if WLS was an exclusion by the employer ? And Which Doctor - Joya or Alveraz has the best results? — mikebowlin (posted on December 10, 2008)

Michael - I had the MGB w/Dr Rutledge and am terrifically pleased with the
results, even 9 years post-op. My understanding of employer exclusions is
you have to fight it through the employer and find out who is in a position
of authority to help you. You may have to go to the CEO of the company,
and ultimately the decision may be "no", but you have to begin by
asking, "Do you have the authority to help me? I understand you're
saying "no", but do you have the authority to say
"yes", if you wanted to? If not, I'm sorry, but respectfully I'm
going to have to ask to speak to someone who does have that
authority." Stay calm and plead your case. Putting together the
reasoning, the comorbities, the expense the company will have if you have
to have knee replacement, hip replacement, a heart attack....I think you
have to go at it that way. Ultimately, if you have to go as a private pay
and get some sort for financing it's still worth it. Plus, and I'm not
giving tax advice, but it should all be tax deductible as a medical
expense.
