Question:
Has anyone had the stomach virus? How did you handle it?
I'm not sure if it was a stomach virus (which is going around here badly) or if it was some stewed cabbage I ate last night. All I know is that my stomach began cramping severly and has continued on through the next day. Every time I try to eat something, my whole mid-section begins to roll and cramping begins. I don't think I had this much pain when I came out of surgery from the RNY over 9 months ago. Has anyone else dealt with a stomach virus after having RNY? What were your symptoms and how did you handle it? — Breathin4him (posted on October 17, 2008)

I don't know about a stomach virus but I am 3 years out and cabbage does
that to me all the time even just a few bites of saurkraut(sp?)boy do I
feel crummy and sick after, so it is a big no,no for me.

I haven't had surgery yet, but I had a nasty stomach virus last week that
lasted for about 2-3 days. There is definitely something going around!

Every once in a while I get some bad cramping that often scares me half to
death for a day or two and I often wonder if it's a virus myself...It
usually passes in a day or two...Once in a while it feels like my stoma is
swollen and achy and eating hurts....But it goes away and all goes back to
normal. On those days I eat softer, mild foods like cottage cheese (as long
as it doesn't make me sick) and yogurt, baked fish if I am up to it...I
might drink a protein drink that day too just to keep up with protein and
fliuids, Sometimes I take a prevacid to coat my pouch too just incase it's
some sort of acid flare up ( That has helped almost immediately once or
twice!) ....and LOTS of water! Flush it all out!
Often these things just pass...but if it gets worse, you really need to get
in a call / or see a bariatric doc...or go to a hospital with a bariatric
unit. Most regular docs really have NO clue how we function and can
totally misdiagnose a serious problem...You know your body best...don't
panic, but don't wait longer than you need to either...if it gets bad go in
and don't risk things...
Hope you feel better soon!

Hi, I find that I am SUPER sensitive to high fiber foods now that I've had
my GBP. I get that weird crampy feeling with stuff like that too. Hours
later it turns into lovely gas!
I hope your tummy has settled by now?
