Question:
I found that water tasted funny as well
I am glad I came across this question. I noticed that water had a funny taste as well . I think its an after effect of the anesthesia. It is starting to go away now that I am six days post op. Also, after the first three days I was very sensitive to sound and couldn't sit in one place very long or watch TV. That has gone a way now (-: — havensurgery25 (posted on July 4, 2008)

I still only drink Disani Water as I taste chemicals in the water that come
through even filters. I did not have the problem with sound of TV or
people talking but now I can not stand noise that I can not understand like
a room full of people talking loud, or the chatter of noise in a public
place where everyone is talking at once. I think your mid developes some
new sensitivities aftera period of time, as one of the people in my support
group says she is very sensitive now to smells, and she never was before.

No answer here but to say water tasted bad in the hospital, probably my own
mouth problems. But Bill, bet you didn't know that, health side effects
asside, humans are the only animal that can't taste water...to all other
animals, water has a definite taste, like Coke has a taste to us. Don't
know why, but that is a fact from the World Book Encyclopedia when I was a
kid and still holds true. Lyn

I am almost 7 weeks post-op and water tastes "funny". I used to
drink a lot of water pre-op. Post op I need to add a flavor to it. A lot
of people post -op have the same problem. I was told that it is due to
ketosis. Our body is burning fat and protein for fuel, that is why water
taste "metalic", or just "funny". Adding a lemon or
lime juice helps a lot.

I think you are right about the anesthesia causing the funny taste but I'm
more concerned with the sore leg. You do know that pain in the leg could be
the result of blood clots that can form any time up to 6 weeks after any
surgery. Call your doctor. A simple test that scans your veins can rule out
this life threatening condition.

The sound sensitivity could be due to not getting enough electrolyes such
as magnesuim...It's a side effect of mag deficiency...You were probably
dehydrated...Someone said adding lemon or lime helps ...IT REALLY does! and
without all that artifical flavor and colors and "stuff" they put
in those powder water enhancers! I still like Propel though...as it is
clear and adds those electrolytes back to your body...and it comes in
powder now too so you don't have that plastic bottle waste. I'm one of
those recycle/green people! LOL I needed a hobby, what can I say??? I
hate waste and love healthy stuff. Your kidneys and liver work soooooo
hard after surgery to get rid of all that fat and STUFF...that adding all
kinds of fake crap and colorings just make your body work so hard to get
rid of it all. Go as close to natual as you can tolerate...It's best for
you...

I drank tap water all day everyday until the day of surgery. I then
developed diarrhea and could only tolerate bottled water. I liked the
tated of ZephyrHills the best. I had to stop drinking that because my BP
became elevated. I was told that the minerals in bottled water are too
large for the body to metabolize and get rid of and can raise the systolic
blood pressure as much as 20 points. I then began water delivery of
distilled water and drink that only now. It is very "flat"
tasting and took a little bit of getting used to. I love it now and my bp
is normal.
Everything tastes different now.
I was restless after surgery for a time and couldn't sit in one place to
watch tv and can completely relate. I think it was from the reglan in the
hospital... it made my legs restless. The phenergan at home made me
restless as well. These are for nausea.
Good luck,
