Hi Donna. I am almost 7 mths out. YES!! It is to be expected. It sucks I
know. I couldn't do nothing because of my left side for a week or so and
slowly it eased up. My dr. told me that I wouldn't feel normal on my left
side for about 4 weeks and he was right. I felt better one day and the next
I would cry with pain. But you are ok, it is normal and it does hurt.
BADLY!!! I slept on my couch my first month out cause it was so hard to get
out of bed and it hurt to even move. Be prepared if you cough or sneeze.
That really hurts...Anyway good luck and I wish you the bestQ

The only pain I had on my left side was from where the drain was. I think
you should call your dr. I dont remember being in a lot of pain at all.

If you had Lap Band Surgery that is probably where they put you port. It
takes the longest to heal......the more you walk the better you will feel
and the fast this will go away......if it's in your shoulder area it could
be gas.

With a RNY they stitch your stomach to your side to keep it in place. Also
the largest insision was there and they put a lot of equipment thought that
insision, so it is sore and hurts for about a week. Take the pain meds they
gave you and go back to bed. Next week you can look at going to work or
doing housework, or what ever you daily activites are. Best of success to
you.

Yes it is common to still have a LOT of pain. Keep in mind your stomach
cavity is filled with gas to expand it. I had the lap-band but had a
friend that had the bypass and she too was in massive pain. I'm a little
sore where my port is (tuesday made it 3 weeks) but if you feel like you
can't deal with it...call your doctor maybe they can prescribe a liquid
pain killer for you. I wish you good luck :)

I think it depends on where the largest incision is. My doctor had to go
around a previous scar so my incisions aren't in the normal place. I did,
however, have a great deal of pain on my left side for almost a month after
surgery. I ended up calling the hospital (because I was due to go back to
work the next day and was still in a good deal of pain). He explained that
it was very normal, and he explained why it hurt so much (too long an
explanation). But it is normal and I would rest assured that it will go
away soon. If you still have concerns, call the hospital and ask for the
resident on duty in the bariatric dept. Good Luck!

Donna, don't be scared, but call your surgeon right away and get in and see
them. My surgeon told me that if I am not getting better EVERY DAY, I need
to be in contact with them. You need to be seen, but it may be gas it
could very well be something simple, even anxiety that is drilling your
pain. Just get checked out and that will make you feel better. You are
paying a great premium for their services, so don't be afraid to use them.

Hey! Yes I had tremondous pain in my left side also . It gradually eases
as the weeks go by. By my 4th week out it just went away! Thank the Lord!
Also I saw that you are from the Hickory area. Is this NC.? I'm from that
area also. Dr. Cook did my surgery. Just take your pain meds or tylenol
liquid as you need it and you should be ok. Angela

Hi Donna. I am nearly 4 weeks out from my VSG and still have pain on my
left side. My Dr told me it is where the largest incision is and also where
they had to tunnel through some muscle. Didn't know I had any muscle left.
LOL Anyway, it is easing very slowly, and I make a little progress
everyday. I was told it is very normal, although not everyone has it. Hang
in there. The first couple of weeks are the roughest.

Yes, I had pain on my left side also. My surgeon says that it's partly
because your body starts to heal while you are on the table. So it starts
to heal places it shouldn't. I had a pulling feeling to the left of my
belly button and then like a burning feeling on my skin right above there.
She said it was normal and after a while it would go away. She was right,
that is also the side my largest incision was on too. You will be fine,
but don't be afraid to call the office and ask someone. Don't wait until
your appointment, if it doesn't feel right call them and ask questions.
