Question:
Has anyone dealt with Blue Cross PPO-Prudent Buyer Plan
What is the first step to get surgery if this is your insurance? — nicole30 (posted on January 21, 2008)

The good news is I have BC/BS PPO MA, and they will pay for either the RNY
or Lap[-Band procedure. Your surgeon's office can tell you at your initial
consult if your insurance covers a procedure, but I also wanted to make
double sure so I called BC to make sure and to make sure fills for the
Lap-Band would be covered. The main number for the insurance company is
usually on your ID card. Good luck!

Hi, I have BC of California PPO (prudent buyer plan). it was extremely
easy. I did make an initial call to the insur. plan...but as long as there
is medical necessity, it should be good. It was extremely easy and
approval very quick (48 hours)

I also have BC/BS PPO in California, and got approved rather quickly. So
long as your doctors deem it medically necessary it is fine. I called in
advanced because I kept hearing horror stories about people having to
appeal their initial insurance decisions. Thankfully, I didn't have to go
through that at all.
Good luck! :)

Sorry, I forgot to include. The first step is to see a surgeon. They will
give you a checklist of things you need to complete and once completed they
will submit the claim to BC/BS.
