Question:
Not getting enough protein

I had rny on 12/13 and I am finding it VERY difficult to get enough protien. I HATE the Isopur and have tried a couple of "protien drinks" and just cannot get them down. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks    — patty13308 (posted on December 22, 2007)

The Nectar products are high protein and very low carb-- the ice tea is particularly good (especially if mixed with a little lemon crystal lite). Check out bariatriceating.com for lots of products. Also, the worldwide protein premixed shakes are great.

I had the same problem. I used Designer Whey from GNC in the fruit flavors and mixed them with about 4 oz of water. Once I could do that amount without distress, I gradually increased the amount of water. The orange mango tastes kind of like Tang to me. I know, I'm dating myself. :o) Good luck. ~Shirley

Try Unjury Chocolate shakes. It comes in a powder form and 17 servings runs about $17.00. You can buy direct from their website www.unjury.com. The have a lot of flavors and will send you single samples. They are a great company to deal with. I tried everything I could before surgery and I hate skim milk, but I love the Unjury Chocolate with 8 oz of skim milk and a few ice cubes run in my blender on hi for 2 minutes. It make a 16oz milk shake.

Hello, I dont like protien shakes either, but I bought vanilla whey protien powder from walmart 13.00 and mike it with 6oz skim milk add frozen mixed berry fruit or take a quarter of bananna and frozen strawberries and add 1 sweet and low packet or any sweetner you like taste like a milk shake. I also try to eat high protien foods I have egg beaters with cheese for breakfast and I have alot of tuna, cheese sticks , yougart, lean cusine meals with high protien in them. You really have to work with what you can tolerate its alot of trial and error. good luck!!!

I would suggest that you try whey protein that you can add to your drinks or food. It is tasteless, and it can help you ensure that you 1) increase your protein, and 2) ultimately get your protein intake to an acceptable level.

Try Anywhey Tasteless protein powder from GNC. It isn't 100% tasteless but it is about 90-95% tasteless and very tolerable. It can be put in hot items and cold and even used to bake with! From my understanding, try it and hang onto the receipt. If you don't like it you can return it for a refund at GNC. This saved me as it was the only type of protein I could tolerate after 2 weeks and I continue to use it at almost 9 months out. Good luck, God bless and welcome to the losing side! Merry Christmas!

I went through a few protein types before settling on IDS New Whey Liquid Protein in the 25gm and 42gm tubes. It tastes like fruit flavored motor oil but it's only 3 ounces so I find it more to my liking than the others. Tom

Its 25g protein, 100 cal, 0fat & 0carbs. I hated it at first until i tried others and never could finish them.Good Luck

Isopure also has a fruit liquid protein that you can mix with water. These are the Zero Carb drinks. I eventually got to the point where I can drink these straight. I only purchase the Alpine Punch, Frost Grape and Apple Melon.

I found that if you sprinkle some (not a lot) of the same flavor Crystal Light packet into the Isopure, it really helps. It tastes more like kool-aid and much easier to get down. And the Crystal Light is sugar free!!

I had the same problem. Try unflavored beneprotien powder mixed with 16 oz water and crystal light. I think it taste great because you can't taste the beneprotien. I use 6 scoops for 30 grams of protien per drink. Good luck

Do you like chocolate milk? I use 1 scoop Any Whey which has no taste (bariatriceating.com), 1 cup skim milk & 1 squirt Hersheys sugar free choc syrup. Use a blender & enjoy. 25 grams protein & delicious. Good Luck
