Question:
...in search of....liquid protein suppliments

Has anyone had/tried or even seen any liquid protein suppliments. When I was in college and had lost about 35 pounds and had gotten way too thin, my doctor put me on some liquid protein that was 2 tablespoons per serving, it was gross to mix with water (as directed) but I would do the tablespoons then chase with water... easier for me to handle. Anyhow I purchased it at GNC back then and cannot seem to find it anymore. Anyone out there have any insights to share on the liquid protein. These shakes I can handle just fine but they fill me up so much, I still worry that maybe I am going to stretch the pouch, sack, funnel... out, and I don't want that. Thank you all for your great insights. These Q&As are so helpful. Leslie    — LuvNSummer (posted on December 22, 2007)

Just remember to check the liquid protein bullets for WHEY protein. It's the only protein our bodies absorb best now. I don't do the shakes, I just get the Anywhey tasteless protein powder and add it to my crystal light and teas etc. I tried the shakes and smoothies, and like you can't drink them all-they are too filling. Good luck and God bless!

I think I neglected to say that the protein I am after is just "straight protein liquid" it's not flavored or anything, it's actually icky, but it'd be so much easier than filling up on the shakes. Thanks again, Leslie

IsoPure is a brand that GNC still carries. It's a whey protein, 25 grams of protein per scoop. Low in sugar and calories. I still take it 3 or 4 times per week some 17 months post surgery.

Maybe it's possible that the protein you used to use no longer exists because things have improved so much. I wouldn't worry about stretching your pouch. I understand that it's very hard to do this with liquids. I had this problem shortly after my surgery. I also couldn't tolerate the vanilla and chocolate varieties for a while. I went to GNC and bought Designer Whey Protein Supplement in Orange/Mango and Pomegranete and made them with 4 ounces of water. It made it easier and over time I increased the amount of water. I found these supplements to be much lighter than some of the others on my pouch. Good Luck! ~Shirley

LESLIE, IF YOU GOOGLE THE WORD "PROTEINEX" WHICH IS THE LIQUID PROTEIN THAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT, YOU'LL FIND SEVERAL WEBSITES THAT SELL IT. I CAN'T REMEMBER WHICH SITE I USED BUT IF YOU FILL IN THE INFO THEY'LL SEND YOU FOR FREE A SAMPLE OF THE BLACK CHERRY, LEMON LIME AND SOME CHEWABLES. I MUST ADMIT IT WAS GROSS, EVEN IN WATER SO I DIDN'T ORDER ANY. I WAS JUST AT GNC HERE IN MY TOWN AND THEY HAVE THE LIQUID PROTEIN IN A BOTTLE BUT I THINK IT WAS FRUIT PUNCH FLAVOR IF I REMEMBER RIGHT. I WAS DOING THE BULLETS BUT THEY SEEM TO MAKE ME SICK EVEN HALVING THEM SO I'M DOING THE DRINKS AGAIN, YUCK!! GOOD LUCK FINDING SOMETHING THAT YOU LIKE. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND GOD BLESS, DEBI

my dr has done over 1000 of these surgeries rue-n-y and I asked him about this protein thing, after 5 months post op, his advice is if I'm eating normal and all, I don't need extra protein . do my blood work every few months, only thing I had to add was some iron. other than that take a flintstones complete chewable and 2 tums every day. just wondering why everyone seems to be doing so much extra protein so far after surgery? thanks, Brian ps , I'm down 95 lbs in 5 months and 2 days

This post is in response to Brian Pantola December 22nd reply. The reason why so many are concerned about protein is 2 fold. 1. Typically when women do not consume enough protein there are affects that are not appealing incluing, and most importantly HAIR LOSS ! While most of us do this to improve our helath - I think many of us would not be telling the truth if we said we didn't want to look better - and going through all of this and losing our hair clearly isn't the goal! 2. Protein is essential for appropriate muscle health for men AND women. Healthy, well-nourished muscles contrubute to more efficient fat-burning! Studies show that most people do not consume the appropriate levels of protein in comparison to their sugar and other carbohydrate intake. Protein intake is extremely important - keep asking hte questions! It DOES MATTER!

GNC has a 3 oz "bullet" of semi-liquid protein drink. It has 42 grams of protein in the small amount of 3 oz. I am in my first week post op for vertical sleeve gastrectomy. My doc and the local support group here recommended them. The brand name is Nu Whey. Hope you can get some where you are.

My Nutritionist recommended a protein beverage called Profect. You can only get it on the internet @ http://www.Protica.com.... The taste is not all that great, but it is in a bullet like capsule and only takes 2 quick swollows to get down. It is also 25g protein, 100 calories, 0 fat... I can get it down quick and be done with it. The powder Protein I started with was just too much to get down. Hope this helps

Leslie, GNC carries a variety of protein. 100% whey is really what you want and need for everything. And it only has 2g of carbs which is amazing compared to alot of other protein supplements. It also has 50g of protein so you should only have to drink a few of these a day. I usually drink about 4 a day, but most people are different. The taste of the powdered mix is ok in some mixes, but I usually get the premixed cans. It's a little more expensive, but worth the taste. But if you do go with the powdered, you can make a variety of different drinks. Try mixing it with non fat skim milk with bananas, diet caffiene free sprite, or yogurt. I hope this helps you and sorry for the late response. Take care.

I have tried the GNC and other brands most of which are whey protein. I now use and really like the vegetable protein mix from Arbonne. You can buy it wholesale even (www.golong.myarbonne.com). I mix it with frozen fruit and fat free milk, but it can mixed with water and no fruit. It is so good that my whole family started drinking them. They are also vegan and kosher certified. I am 3 months out and have lost 54 pounds. Kristie in Illionis
