Question:
Insurance
I went to the DR. today to find out about authorization for surgery and the nurse says they do not do RYN surgery in the state of NM. I have already called the insurance who said it would be covered if it was medically necc. I need to call the insurance again tomarro but has anyone had this surgery in NM??( The nurse said they had seen people that had it done in Lubbick TX) — angel-kisses (posted on November 14, 2007)

Linda, I went to this url
http://www.xoova.com/search?q=bariatric+surgeon+new+mexico&page=1&t=0.04
and found several bariatric surgeons in NM. Good luck= it's worth the
search!

Sounds like that nurse and doctor are against this surgery so they wanted
to discourage you. Keep searching, it is definately worth it! Good luck
and God bless!

I don't understand this at all. RNY surgery is the gastric bypass surgery
that just about every bariatric surgeon does. It's like the most done
procedure out there. The lap band or DS surgeries are more controversial
and not always done everywhere....but can't imagine why they wouldn't do
RNY. I wonder if the nurse had her head on straight! Good luck.....Cheryl

RYN surgery is done at the University of NM Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. I
had a work up done there in 2003 but moved out of state. After several
years of messing around I finally had the surgery 3 1/2 weeks ago and wish
I had done it sooner. Look into UNMHospital. You'll find excellent
surgeons and staff.
