Question:
hair not growing back after 10 months?

I am 10 months out, and lost a LOT of my hair, it went from long and thick to almost nothing but short hair on my scalp. Has anyone else gone this long without hair growing or thickening back out again? What can I be doing to help this hair growing process along?    — wecangetright (posted on October 18, 2007)

I will be watching answers to your post as I have experienced the same thing. I have bald patches throughout my hair front to back. I look like a chemo patient. I bought a wig but it was to hot to wear during this summer even though it was a short wig for a guy. I used to have a thick head of hair and had to have it thinned out everytime I went to the barbers, its been a year now since I last had my hair cut at all. It simply does not need to be cut. I am devestated. Best of Luck!! Mick

It is very common! My surgeon made sure we knew this going into it. You will get new growth it just takes a while. My regrowth started about 12 months out. Make sure you are getting your protein in and many people recomend Biotin. I took it and don't know if it really helped or not but wasn't about to not try something. Hang in there. It will get better. Just hope that you don't deal with the scalp oils next. That is a pain. Your scalp makes oils for your old hair thickness and because you don't have the hair it make s the hair you do have really greasy and shampoo for oily hair has not helped. Again, good luck!

Try biotin 2-3 capsules a day. Make sure you get in a MINIMUM of 70 grams of protein a day. This is a must! I have hair down to my waist, and it was thick starting out. I am now 6 1/2 months out and thank God my loss has slowed almost stopped. My hair is now just thin. I started losing my hair at a little over 3 months out and was trying not to freak. At 4 months I started taking 2 biotin capsules a day. 1 in the morning with my other vitamins, and then one at night, so there is a constant flow of biotin going through me. I could tell my hair (and also my nails) loved this as I can feel about 1/2 inch growth under the rest of my hair already. (I didn't start feeling re-growth until about 5 months) Just keep taking the biotin even if you think it isn't working. This will all pass, hang in there! Good luck and God bless!

I too will be watching the post since I am almost bald on top at 6 months out. Hate it. Bought a wiglet of human hair that I am taking to my hairdresser next week to have both died the same so I don't look like I am wearing a rug. Hate it!

At one year out my hair is still quite thin, but it is a small price to pay for my overall better health. I take Zinc, Biotin, Bariatric Advantage multiple vitamins, and use Nioxin shampoo, conditioner and scalp treatment. And of course I use my protein supplements 3 times a day. It's only hair. Don't stress over it.

Another option for you instead of going out and buying some of these products is to go see a dermatologist and he/she may have something in mind that will really work and just pay for that. I used biotin and it did not seem to work, but then again my hair did not fall out as much as most, but it did stop falling out at 5 months out. 12 months seems to be a long time for it to be still falling out.
