Question:
How many calories should I be consuming?
I'm about 9 weeks out and not sure how many calories I should be consuming a day...also, I feel like I am able to eat a LOT more than I should be able to...is this normal? — psadvocate (posted on March 29, 2007)

I think the protein grams are more important than the # of calories but I
think it's between 700-1000 a day. Ask your nutritionist, you should
slowly be able to eat more each day but certainly no more than 2-4 oz. at a
meal.

Ask your dietician as they can tell you the minimum of protein grams and
calories that you should be consuming based on your current weight and the
weight that you want to lose. When you say you are eating alot, how much
is alot? Did you have the RNY or the lap band?

Michelle, I asked that very question early out after surgery and my
surgeons office told me to not count calories. Because protein can have
more calories than say vegetables, it can be confusing as to what to eat.
You need to stick to protein grams, water and exercise this early out.
That would be my advice, but if it goes against your surgeon, then you need
to speak with them. Thanks. Patricia P.
