Question:
Is Endometrial Ablation safe?
I am thinking about having an endometrial ablation done, but I am scared of complications. Has anyone out there had complications with this? — [Deactivated Member] (posted on November 19, 2006)

Hi Marsha, I think that I replied to another one of your posts suggesting
this...I haven't had any complications, my period hasn't totally stopped,
but enough that all I have to wear is a panty liner for 3 days...great
compared to 2 maxi longs with wings and a tampon!!!!!! and still leak, it
has been quite a change.

No complications here either. The doctor did it in the morning, I was home
around lunch time, and back to work the next day. What a wonderful
difference it has made.

Ablation is much safer than hysterectomy. There is very littel risk of
complications. Essentially the endometrium is heated up. Technically there
is risk for infection but it is not very common. Good luck & Best
wishes!

My only regret is that I didn't have an ablation years before! In in the
morning, out by noon. Felt a little crampy and yucky the rest of the day,
but I was fine the next morning and went into work as usual. No
complications, and it beats having a hysterectomy (if you are a candidate
for an ablation).

I am having this procedure on 1/05. I am a surgical tech and from that
point of view, I have assisted with several of these procedures and the
patients have all be much happier afterwards. We use the Novasure type of
ablation. It is 90 seconds of energy to give your endometrial lining a 3rd
degree burn. Sounds like it hurts but the docs always give good pain meds.
I wouldn't do this if I thought it was very painful. But I have had like
2-3 periods every month for over 2 years and it ruins my life. Your doctor
should go over with you all the good and bad things about the procedure. I
fyou want to do some research on the Novasure it's www. novasure.com
Good luck to you in making your decision.

I TO HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY PERIOD AFTER SURGERY I HAD MY PERIOD FOR 27 WEEKS
AND IN TURN IT MADE ME VERY ANEMIC. I HAD MY TUBES TIED, A HYSTEROSCOPY,
D&C AND A NOVASURE ENDOMETRIAL ABLATION. THE BEST THING I EVER DID
NEXT TO GASTRIC BYPASS. I STILL DO HAVE A SHORT LIGHT PERIOD AT TIMES BUT
NOTHING REALLY TO COMPLAIN ABOUT. IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FEEL
FREE TO EMAIL ME.

Best thing I ever did. Had it done in June and haven't had a spot since.
I do still get the token monthly headache, but most of my pms symptons are
gone. My iron level has come up to almost normal. I had the Novasure
procedure. Very little discomfort - I did however miss two days of work
because I got a urinary tract infection, but that's what they make
antibiotics for (those things just happen sometimes). Good luck to you.

I had this done last year and have had one bad complication, severe yeast
infections. I would still do it again in a heart beat. I now have a light
period and my iron levels are back to normal.
