I am one month out today and have "only" lost 27 pounds. I am
told that I am a "slow" loser. Dont worry I was just like you. I
lost 8 pounds by my 1st week, 9 2nd week another 4 by the end of the 3rd
week and 6 the 4th week (as of yesterday) were you open or lap? You could
still be holding onto fluids and did you do a pre op diet? Usually people
that do the pre op diet and lose weight dont lose AS much the first few
weeks because you have already gotten rid of your excess water weight. My
friend had surgery 2 weeks before me and lost 44 pounds her first month no
pre op diet so dont feel bad!

Tammy, I'm having surgery on the 9th so I don't know personally, but the
group I belong to, everyone differs. The most recent to have had the
surgery, the low end is 11 pounds in 2 weeks and the top is 32 in 2 weeks.
SO, it all depends on your body, there is no exact amount. Just give it
time & make sure you're resting & sipping your water.

Don't worry about how slow it comes off. Myself, I lost 20 pounds in one
month. Then it went down to 5-10 pounds every few weeks. I have had spurts
of as much as 5 pounds in one week, then nothing for several weeks. I am
just short of 8 months out and have lost 90 pounds. Some who had surgery
the same day as I had it have lost over 100. I have learned to just be
happy about loosing and not worry about how long it takes. I worried that I
would be the one that surgery failed for and I would have went through
this for nothing. I have since learned that these worries are normal.
Most people succeed. Some slow, some fast, but it usually works for the
majority. It is usually after the first year or so people start to gain
because they don't follow the rules of eating right after WLS. Just try to
be calm, follow your doctor's rules and enjoy each pound lost no matter how
long it takes.

Hi there -
Caught myself going through the same issues recently. Go with the flow and
enjoy it. Try reading "Rant of the month" on bariatriceating.com
Another poster on another board (?I think it's the North Carolina board)
gave info on "hibernation syndrome"???? Learning myself but
don't question yourself as if it's something you are doing wrong. Congrats
on your surgery. There is no way you can NOT lose weight.

~everyone above has great points...I am 1 month post-op today and have lost
about 25 lbs so far. (but despite the slow weight loss for myself i have
noticed significant loss in inches in various areas of my body) everyone
loses at a different pace, i noticed on your profile that your BMI is 38.9;
the higher your BMI typically you will lose faster~you would be considered
a light weight if that BMI is correct. Be patient and give it time, you'll
see the loss picking up soon. Good Luck w/ the remainder of your journey~

Tammy -- don't be frustrated. You had major surgery and your body has to
heal itself. You didn't gain it all at one time so don't expect to lose if
two weeks after surgery. The loss will come. Everyone's body is
different, some lose it fast and some lose it slow. Five pounds in two
weeks isn't bad. Just consider what you body has gone through and give
yourself a break.

Well, everyone is different and that's important for you to remember. The
more weight you have to lose the faster it comes off. I have about 100 to
lose so, i am expecting it to come off slower then someone who has to lose
200. Anyway, i had my surgery done 5 days ago, and i've already lost 15
pounds, which is amazing for me, because no diet in the world took off more
then 5 for me. I hope this helps, look on the bright side, the majority of
your weight will come off in the 6-9 month period post op, so take
advantage of it. As soon as your able, start an excerise regimen, then
you'll probably really start to see the pounds drop. Best of luck to you!

Tammy, one reason why you are not losing so much is you are retaining
water. Also, some have said that the anesthesia makes you retain
weight/air. The pounds will start dropping off very soon.

Personally my first suggestion would be to chunk that scale out the window.
Secondly if you continue to follow your doctors instruction and get in your
water, your protein and some exercise you WILL continue to lose weight. We
didnt gain it overnight and even with this new TOOL we will not lose it
over night. I had surgery on 7/28/04 and I have lost about 155 pounds so
far. Slow , maybe, but it is gone and I am working to make sure it stays
gone so I can stay healthy. Take care and please dont stress so much about
the scale right now.

Tammy dear, relax and enjoy the ride that is about to begin! The weight
didn't get there over night and the surgery wasn't a magickal wand - the
weight will not disappear over night.
In the days, weeks and months ahead the weight will drop so quickly that
it'll make you dizzy....lol
Hugs
