I have bcbs of NJ so I'm not sure if it will be exactly the same, but it
took exactly 30 days for my approval. My co-pay is $250 for the
hospitalization and I have to pay 10% of the reasonable cost (after they
pay 90%) of the surgery. The co-pay and your out of pocket will depend on
the policy that you have. I would suggest you call the 800# on your card
and ask them about the benefits, what's covered, and what will be your out
of pocket. That's what I did before I did anything else. Good lock.

BCBS of CA has a great website, you might want to check it out. Remember
a COPAY is a fixed $ amount that you would pay (for example) to a doctor's
office. You will pay a DEDUCTIBLE for an in patient hospital stay. After
your deductible is met, then the insurance will pay a certain percentage
(example 80%). Then, you are responsible for the remaining percentage.
That is called a COINSURANCE. You will want your hospital and all doctors
to be in-net with your insurance (though I can't imagine many who wouldn't
be in net with BCBS) so that you will have a smaller deductible to pay and
so that your insurance will pay a higher percentage. You should also have
an OUT OF POCKET(OOP). Once you meet your OOP, then your insurance will
pay 100% of charges, and you shouldn't pay any more. Check with your
insurance to see if your deductible applies toward your OOP. Good luck!

I have BC?BS of California as well. I have 80/20 with a 250. deductible.
I also have an out of pocket expense which is 2500. If you have all of
your paperwork in order and everything that you need they told me they have
5 ddays to make a decision, but if they pass it along to a doctor to look
over they have 30 days. I had my approval within 4 business days. Hope
this helps. If you need anything else you can e-mail me and I can help you
as much as possible. Good Luck
