My loose skin is so bad (estimated by the surgeon to be 10 to 12 pounds on
the tummy alone, and the apron hangs at least a third of the way down my
thigh), that insurance approved a panniculectomy without an argument.
However, even with my extreme skin, they would not approve the
muscle-tighteneing portion as they consider that cosmetic (and probably
rightly so--I will have a much better look with muscle-tightening, but my
medical issues will be resolved with the skin removal alone). My surgeon
told me he never gets approval for the muscle-tightening from any insurance
company. So, I think that part is a long shot. However, having the
panniculectomy part covered gets the hospital, anesthesia and other related
expenses covered by insurance, so I don't have to pay quite so much for
just the extra work.

Do you have a hernia? Hernia repair should be covered by insurance. That is
tightening of the muscles in the area of the hernia. A large % of obese
peopple have hernias. Check it out. That might get a little more payment
from the insurance company.
