Question:
HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD TO HAVE AN EMERGENCY SPLEEN REMOVAL?
DURING MY OPEN ROUX-EN-Y THE SURGICAL TEAM "NICKED" MY SPLEEN WITH THE SPREADER BRACKETS. IT WAS NOT DISCOVERED UNTIL THEY WERE BUTTONING UP THE SURGERY. THEY COULD NOT GET THE SPLEEN TO QUIT BLEEDING AND DECIDED TO REMOVE IT. HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE OR IS IT MY USUAL "SLEPROCK" LUCK? WHAT ARE MY FUTURE CONCERNS BEING SPLEENLESS? THIS WAS A TRIPLE WAMMY OPERATION (STOMACH, GALL BLADDER & SPLEEN). — JOANNA S. (posted on August 25, 2000)

I am not a Dr. or nurse, nor did I have that happen to me.
However, my sister in law had a problem and ended up having
her spleen removed and hasn't had any problems for years
afterward. I am sure somebody more knowledgable than me can
tell you more medically- I just wanted to encourage you:)

JOANNA, I ALSO HAD MY SPEEN REMOVED BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT QUIT BLEEDING. I
HAD TO HAVE 3 PINTS OF BLOOD. THE DR SAID AS LONG AS I HAVE A PNEMONIA SHOT
EVERY 5 YEARS I SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY TROUBLE SINCE THAT IS REALLY ALL THE
SPLEEN WAS GOOD FOR WAS ATTACKING THE PNEMONIA VIRUS. HOPE THIS HELPS
