Question:
Is it hard to loose weight having a baby after Gastric Bypass?

I was told once the stomach expands due to pregnancy your surgery was a waste for it's hard to loose those extra pound. I'm wonder how true this is?    — smileyface423 (posted on November 12, 2010)

My friend had this surgery and she got pregnant, I believe she was fine afterwards. I am old as dirt so no babies here, thank the good Lord!

Why would your stomach expand due to pregnancy? My baby grew in my womb. I didn't realize my stomach also grew. Why does it grow? Please, I'm not trying to be "smart" here. I guess I just don't understand how pregnancy affects our bodies.

Thank goodness my tubes are tied. I hope i will not have this concern. From what I have read you should be fine. My clinic told me that surgeon now leave you with the LEAST stretchiest part of your stomach so it would be hard to stretch your new pouch. You may have to increase calories but the baby will eat all of that up. And post baby just get back on your normal diet unless you breastfeed...and back to exercise. ...Good luck on the baby

I don't have an answer to your question, but I did find this website. It's got personal stories, much like you're looking for. Hope it helps as there aren't any real answers so far . . . http://forum.baby-gaga.com/about6312.html

Here's just a personal story; I've no reason to believe it's of general applicability. I got pregnant more than five years after having the BPD/DS. I had a real problem with water retention from the fifth month onward; my legs were swollen from my thighs to my toes. But all the non-baby weight I gained must have been water, because two weeks after delivery, I weighed twelve pounds LESS than I did before getting pregnant. People asked me if I was sure I'd had a baby. So, anyway, it's possible to go through pregnancy after weight-loss surgery without having a problem getting rid of the baby weight. Best of luck.

My daughter is 5 years post gastric bypass. She just gave birth last month. Her stomach was bigger than with her previous 2 kids. She only gained 20 lbs. and loss it very quickly after c-section. Now she weighs even less than she did before pregnancy
