Question:
Pain in and around the surgical site, need to push area in to stop it. Normal?
Almost two weeks post op (closed), have used an elastic band to help support surgical area. I feel the need to make it tighter and tighter due to pain in the area. It feels like I have to compress the area internally to reduce the pain and discomfort. There is pain when I move to stand, get up from reclining, and sometimes just up and moving around the room. Have to apply pressure in and around the area to relieve the pain. Is this normal for anyone? — evamaribe (posted on May 22, 2010)

I had the same thing. It occured at my "drain site". It'll pass,
but it takes a few weeks. They told me to use a pillow to support it and I
did find that helped. The good news is that i'm 5 months and 98 lbs
thinner. So hang in there, it'll get better !

It could be a hernia. I suggest you call your surgeon. Good luck. Hugs,

I was with poster Karen, I am now 4 weeks post op and if I am doing too
much in one day I still have some tenderness in the main area that the
surgeon did his work. It will pass and patience is important but it is
also important to get up and move as well.

I had gastric bypass in Dec. 09, and had this same feeling. It was very
painful and did not seem to come on at the same times. I spoke to my
surgeon and he informed me that it was just my body repairing itself from
the surgery. Mine only lasted about a month and a half. i would recommend
writing down each time the pain occurs and what you have eaten or done
(exercise, sleeping, cleaning) right before it happened and then take this
and talk to your doctor. Hopefully, yours will pass as quickly as mine
did. Good luck.
