Question:
3 weeks post op, RNY, lost 0 in last 7 days

I am 3 weeks post op, still on pureed foods. The first two weeks I lost about a total of 20 pounds. Now during the last 7 days I have lost not even a tenth of a pound. Still eating and drinking the same as I was the first couple weeks. Could something be wrong if I am hitting a plateau this early?    — Sa-ruh (posted on December 30, 2009)

Congrats on reaching the losing side. I experienced the same thing during week 3. I was told it was normal as your body adjusts to the healing and calorie adjustment. Continue following the rules and you will be successful. I am at 4 months and a day and have lost 70 lbs. Be patient and don't get discouraged as your body hits these adjustment phases. Good luck in your journey.

I went through the same valleys! Your body adjusts to the calorie loss this way. I would lose for two weeks, stay put for a week. Just keep plugging away! It's two years for me and I am half the size I was when I began the journey!

When is the last time you lost 20 lbs in two weeks? LOL My body did the same at 3 weeks. Your body is trying to hold on to every single calorie that it can right now. It's in shock. Give it some time to heal....and hold on tight, because your ride is far from over! Congrats on the 20 lbs...you should be proud of that. Dee :D

It is time you changed what you are eating. Your body has become used to eating the same foods. So you need to bump up your metabolism. Switch something in your diet. Also, increase your water or protein, that could be it too. And last but not least, maybe you are losing inches now and not pounds. you won't see inches show up as a loss on the scale. The best thing to do now is to measure yourself. I hope one of these choices helps you.

I did exact same thing.Kristy is right, you are probably losing inches at this time .i thought i was doing something wrong.i did start walking more as soon as i was able.I was losing inches instead of lbs. When i was 3 weeks out i had lost 24 lbs.I am now 5 months out and down 77lbs.Won't be long you will see you are on track.Just follow Dr's orders and you will be fine.

Hi there, I'm 2 and a half weeks post op, I still have only lost 6 pounds, but I measured everything before surgery then measured again and bam, there was the loss! I had lost 23 inches total! I knew I was still losing or at least changing because I look better and feel better in my clothes and even as I dreadfully look in the mirror after a shower, I can see changes, lol
