You NEED to be getting 60-80 grams of protein per day...that will stop it and/or keep it from falling out. I am exactly 4 months out.....GET THE PROTEIN!

You need to get your protein in. Some of it could also be side effects from the anesthesia. It amazes me how many people don't know that they may lose some hair after surgery. That was something that was discussed in our educational meetings with the surgeon.

I have heard that Biotin helps with maintaining hair and nails after surgery. But again, be sure to get all your protein!

Most people will lose hair in the months following a major surgery with or without the exact amount of protein in their diet. I get my regimen in every single day, but after having 6 surgeries this year, I cannot fight the hair loss. As long as I am not going bald I'm not worrying about it, it will eventually ease. I take biotin to help, but I have no idea how much that really helps. Any form of surgery shocks the body, and the effects can last many months from what I have been told by several doctors. It is no reason to be concerned though, your hair will grow back.

I'am 6 months out and have been loosing my hair for just over a month , it scared the crap out of me after seeing my sister go bald from Chemo . Although I know I won't go bald I asked my doctor what can I do about it and he told me to go get Biotin and make sure I get my proteins in. I hve only been on the Biotin for a week and I assume it takes sometime to even notice a differnce.

hi i am almost 10 months out and have been loosing my hair since about 5 mo out. honestly there's nothing i could do. i get my protein in and i take biotin. my hair is still coming out more than normal but not as much as before. if it makes u feel anybetter i am not bald. not even close. my hair is not as thick as it used to be but who cares....the weight loss totally is worth it. my hairdresser gave me nioxin shampoo and conditioner which i don't think helps but my husband says it does. just hold off on any coloring or dying for now and get a good cut. long hair has more weight and looks thinner. good luck to u. remember there are no bald post op patients.

I've had thin hair most of my adult life...last year my dermatologist told me to start using generic Rogaine - male formula! I did and it works great for me. I get it at Costco - $20 for 3 months worth. It took about 3 months of twice daily use to get a full head of hair...now I just use it once every other day to maintain it. He said to NOT bother with the expensive foam kind nor the weaker strength that is advertised for females. Might be worth a try. I intend to continue using it forever! Cheers, Ms. Tee

It is VERY normal to lose your hair.

It is VERY normal to lose your hair. I had very thin, fine hair prior to surgery. It fell out in clumps from about 4-7 months post-op. It eventually stopped falling out and then it regrew. Here are the things I did. -I used Nexxus volumizing shampoo, which I got at Ulta for the best price around. Sometimes it is buy 2, get 1 free. I got a layered haircut. I use a small amount of volumizing product. I have BETTER hair than I had prior to surgery. My best advice is to "be patient". I know it's tough losing your hair, but it will grow back. Eat plenty of healthy protein.

You need to start taking Biotin 1000mg to 5000mg with Zinc 50mg (no more than 50mg as it may burn the inside lining of your pouch) but the zinc with help your body absorb the Biotin. Your local drug store will have these!

It is very depressing that when you Finally start losing weight all of a sudden your hair gets all wonky on you. Go get it restyled to accommodate the thinness and hold on. It will grow back. When it does grow back it may be different. My normally slightly frizzy but straight hair came back in VERY curly. You just gotta have a good sense of humor and go with the flow. Its all good.

I started to lose mine around the same time. Up your Zinc intake. (Funny thing ... my hair has always been dead straight, it has come back fully, wavy & curly!! I love it!)

You need to talk to your doctor before you take any supplement. Some of them can actually be harmful to you. Just ask the surgeon what you can take to help alleviate the hair loss. Mine said that it's best just to eat plenty of protein. Good luck with all of this. I hope you find your answers.

I lost hair after my gastric bypass also and I freaked out. It is common per the doctor. You need your proteins. I also read on this site to take biotin which is a vitamin for hair. It helped slow the loss to just strands and after a few months I was relieved to see the chucks stop. I still 2 1/2 yrs. later take 1 a day. Don't stress that also makes it happen. Remember you did the most courageous thing to have the surgery so you can get through the small stuff. Good Luck!!!!
