Question:
Help! I am only 17 days Post Op from lap RNY and have
already been plateaued for a week. I am getting in between 70 and 80 grams of protein a day, mostly from protein drinks. I have lost 28 pounds including the weight lost pre-surgery. Isn't it to early to be plateaued! — ktb (posted on April 16, 2009)

I plateaued 9 days 3 weeks out from surgery. Just keep on getting your
protein in, exercising and it restarts. Frustrating though isn't it. What I
did to help my head was look at how few calories I was taking in (averaging
about 410/day) and realized there was no way I wasn't burning fat even if
the scales didn't budge. I am not looking forward to the next plateau. I
know it will happen, but I hate the idea. I didn't get to 354 pounds
overnight and it won't go away overnight so I keep telling myself to stick
with the eating plan, the exercise and it will happen. Hang in there.

My doctor's answer was that I needed the protein drinks a lot right now to
continue healing. I had my surgery April 1st and I really haven't felt
much of anything, very little fullness, etc. I look at those two
tablespoons of food per meal and realize that it will come off somewhere,
there's no intake. Hang in there - we need to get healed up first. Then
you can increase your exercise and that will make a difference. We're all
in this together. Carol
