Question:
Would a patient be able to have RNY surgery if taking maintenance dose of steroids?
I had a bilateral adrenalectomy in 1977 and have had several surgeries since without complications. I take Prednisone and florinef replacement meds. Would surgeons refuse to do this procedure due to this? — woo789 (posted on March 12, 2009)

I am not sure of the answer but I have had the surgery and been on
Prednisone twice with no problems. My surgeon knew I was taking it and she
didn't seem to think there was a problem. It can irritate your pouch tho. I
am careful to take it food.

Only way to find out is talk with your bariatric surgeon. They may want to
consult an endocrinologist for assistance with timing and dosage of steroid
supplementation which will be different with the physcal stress of surgery
