Question:
does bean-o help?
Hi! I was wondering if bean-o would help with gas associated with wls? — chickie_mama (posted on January 27, 2009)

I don't know about bean-o. I havn't tried it but I heard it does work. I
don't get much gas but when I do I use the gas-x strips. They help a lot
and the cinnamon ones don't taste bad. Good luck

You might try to figure out if it is a specific type of food that causes
the problem. For example, if it happens with beans, peanuts and similar,
Beano will often help a lot.
If it happens when you use milk, or a protein supplement that uses whey
protein CONCENTRATE, then the problem is more likely lactose.
If that is the case, you can use a supplement that uses whey protein
ISOLATE, and/or lactose free milk...
Does that help?

Yes it helps but you must remember to take it with the food that causes gas
or before...after is too late!

Hi,
I haven't had my WLS yet, but I am lactose intolerant, which makes me
sensitive to certain foods like beans and potatoes. So, if i eat those
foods - or anything with "hidden" dairy in it - I will get a lot
of gas. Thus, I expect to have gas issues post-WLS.
This has been confirmed by my doctor, but she told me that what I do now
will continue to be effective.
What I do now is this: if I know I am eating dairy food, or food with dairy
ingredients, I take a LacTaid tablet with the food. If I am eating other
food that I know I am sensitive to, I take Bean-O when I start eating.
If I am caught off-guard, or if I still get gas, I have found that Phazyme
works the best of all the OTC meds. However, note that it is expensive and
expires quickly, so be sure to check the expiration date and buy small
packages.
One interesting observation I've made in my pre-pre-op stage that I am in
now is that chewing my food more completely and more slowly has had a
dramatic effect on the gas problems I used to have. Who knows why, but it
works and I feel good and it's a good habit to be developing.
