Question:
Aetna Choice Pos insurance, has anyone used this insurance company.
If so, how was the approval process and what are the requirements for the weight loss surgery? Paula — cocodrop7 (posted on December 30, 2008)

You must have a BMI of 40 or greater to qualify for WLS. Or if below, you
must have co-morbities, like high blood-pressure, diabetes, chronic back,
leg pain, sleep apnea, things like that. You need to go to a WLS seminar,
and you will learn all you need to about this, as well as which surgery
would be best for you. Good luck in your weight-loss journey!

Hi Paula,
I have that insurance here in PA and although my BMI was under 40, I had
sleep apnea and reflux. Yes, I did have to go thru all the thousands of
tests (it seemed) but once I completed everything (starting from August
this year) and it was submitted to my insurance company, I was approved
with no problems. So just make sure you do everything the insurance
company requires and there shouldn't be any problems.--Kayla

Paula, If you go to Aetna.com and search CP 0157 - you will be able to read
the exact requirements for approval from Aetna - also call customer service
and confirm your specific policy has the bariatic benefit - not all Aetna
policies do. Once I had all the requirements together - MD submitted all
the paperwork and got approval within 2 days. Good Luck!
