Wow Jennie! You've done great! Don't beat yourself up over wanting sweets. I have the biggest sweet tooth in the world. My butt was in direct proportion to my sweet tooth. Remember the fable of the tortise and the hare. Slow and steady wins the race! You didn't put the weight on overnight it will take time and the your continued effort. You have been successful thus far. Best of luck in making your dream come true. Mary-Anne

51 pounds! that's awesome! You deserve a big pat on the back. I have a sweet tooth too. Now I try to take a better approach to dealing with it. Canned mandarin oranges, or pineapple are good in a pinch. Fresh pineapple has to be the best-wow. Any fruit that you are allowed is sure to help big time. You are eating less so you need to make your calories count nutritionally. Junk sweets are just that, junk. You get no vitamins or minerals from them and they send you blood sugar skyrocketing, which in turn increase you appetite. As for throwing up, yes, you are probably eating too fast. I was told to cut my meat into a fingernail size and then chew, chew, chew. It's like you chew until the meat is a mushy liquid consistency before swallowing. I've had no problems when I concentrate on chewing. Way to go on the exercise. It sounds like you are on a plateau, which is very normal. Up your protein (I know nothing about whey or the bullet) and change your exercise routine. Even eat a little more. The body is very smart and can shift to maintain weight at this new food level and exercise level routine you are in. Break the routine by either upping or lowering the exercise, and raise you calories a little. You body will respond by shifting again and when it does, the weight will start to come off again. I know it sounds stupid but try it and see. The mirror: boy can I relate to this one. Are you one of those people like me who carries their weight well, proportionately? If so, the best way to see change is through photographs. the mirror just keeps showing us the same shape and we think we are not changing. Seems like all that hard work for nothing. And then if the scale is also silent we want to scream!!!! Hopefully you had taken before pictures. Now it's time for an update. At 51 pounds, I'm sure you'll notice a change. In the mean time, rejoice in what you feel. there is less flesh on your face when you touch it. Your pants have gone down a size or two. You've had to move the driver's seat forward, your belly no longer rubs the wheel. Focus on these small joys because they speak volumes about the changes occurring to your body. Remember also that you are doing this for you health, ultimately, not your looks, and that the people in your life love YOU no matter what. You are doing great! Laura

Good Job on the weight loss/ Try some fruit rather than the sweets. I find this time of year strawberries and Blueberries are grat and if I want them sweeter, I just add splenda. Also my fall back is Del Monte Canned "No Sugar Addred" Peaches with Splenda. I call it slidder fruit because it slids through the pouch and does not fill you up, so I use it if my Blood Sugar is low or I have to have a snack before bedtime.

All I can say is "SUGAR FREE OREOS!!!!!!!!!!!" Probably not the best thing to suggest but I eat two almost every day. They taste exactly like regular oreos which are my favorite and I have been thrilled since I found them. I am 4 months out and have lost 64 lbs. Try them...I think you'll like them and they will satisfy your sweet tooth. :) They are deelish!!

Remember it is your responsibility to "re-train" your brain. The surgery is a tool, but you need to utilize the tool you have been given. The other OH people have given you great suggestions for your sweet issue. But if YOU know you are exercising and taking in your nutrients, and are doing what you have been instructed - then you need to quit being so "judgmental and critical" causing your own depression. You have to think and see your NEW positive image. Remind yourself daily of the blessing you have given yourself. Everything comes with time, and after 3 mos. you have JUST started your journey. Please keep your head up and breathe - stay focused. We are very proud of you, now its your turn to be proud of YOURSELF.

The sweet cravings are probably in your head, unless you've been eating a lot of simple carbs like breads, pasta, rice, potatoes, to include pretzels, crackers, cereal...Carbs make you crave more carbs...The more you eat....the more likely you will want to eat more the next meal. For many people, this is why they gain weight. If you aren't eating these things every meal...it's all in your head..but rather than suppress it, learn to satisfy it will a "good choice" such as fruit...or a protein smoothie...Make jello or pudding with unflavored protein...Always try to make dessert things with protein so your body stays fuller longer and you don't eat empty calories. Fruit is a great food for many reasons...first it satisfies the sweet craving and won't make you want more more more, like simple carbs do...2nd, most fruit has some or a lot of fiber and a little protein, 3rd ... loaded with vitamins and nutrients...4th many have antioxidant qualities. You can make yourself quite a nice dessert with fruit too...Cottage cheese and NSA peaches is sooo good...Put a cherry on top and a scoop of SF whipped creme ...slivered almonds even to give it that nice dessert look that will totally please your eyes and head...Whip some ricotta cheese with a box of SF Cheesecake flavored pudding and a little milk or soy....Cut up strawberries on top and it's like eating strawberry cheesecake...Mix a tspn of cream cheese in it and OOH! Yummy. You can whip the chunks out of cottage cheese with a food processor too if the lactose in ricotta is too much...Cottage cheese is a little less on lactose and sits better with me, although the ricotta is MUCH tastier! Sometimes just dressing up healthy foods make it visually pleasing and that is enough more times than not...I whip up a half a vanilla protein drink with 3-4 strawberries or other berries and scoop of sf whip creme and a mint leaf on top...put in a pretty glass with a straw or spoon...It looks naughty with no guilt! You really have to try new things and experiment with plain healthy foods. It's what keeps me on track all these years...(4 1/2) If you whip a glob of sf whipped creme in any flavored yogurt is comes out like mousse...Mix with vanilla flavored yogurt and cut up apple chunks, walnuts and a few grapes....SO delicious! Eat slowly...chew chew chew and swallow a tiny bite a little at a time...not all at once...Good luck...Hope you feel better about food!

You need to congratulate yourself for doing the very smartest thing. Reaching out when you are afraid something might get out of control. I think regaining the weight after surgery is the worst fear for most of us. I am almost 3 yrs post open RNY surgery and have gained a few pounds following a hysterectomy. Talk about scary!! A few things that have helped me. The ricotta suggestion is good. Mix it with some splenda and almost anything else that appeals to you in the sweet category and it is terrific. You get protein combined with a sweet that can satisfy the craving. I particularly like stirring in a little instant coffee and almond flavoring for a mocha amaretto flavor. Also - there is a truly flavorless whey powder = Ultimate Nutrition Any Whey. GNC carries it. It can be stirred into most things to boost your protein without the yukky flavor of most whey products. Be VERY careful about bullet style liquid or gel protein blasts. Medical professionls generally recommend no more than 25g protein per serving. Too much at once can be VERY damaging to your kidneys. Be very careful there. An up and coming but not yet off the ground website I am involved in is www.proteinoptions.com. As you get a little further out from surgery you may enjoy the protein rich recipes that are Real Food. There will be the typical protein products available here but those of who are further out from surgery usually prefer Real Food. Keep asking the right questions and monitoring yourself along your continued path to success. Don't isolate yourself or it becomes far too easy to slide again. Much success to you!
