Question:
Anyone had a Roux-En-Y after having a Nissen fundoplication?
I am considering Roux-En-Y with Dr. Randall in Medford, MA. He would have been my surgeon for this at MGH in 2005 but my surgery was canceled for insurance/money issues. I was told that he was the best surgeon to do the roux-en-y in patients who have had previous fundoplication (for hiatal hernia) but it makes this procedure very complicated. I am trying to hear from anyone who may have had roux-en-y and also previously had fundoplication. Thanks — pinksweatergal (posted on April 28, 2008)

Hi I had my surgery at Tufts New England Medical now known as Tufts
Medical...They are the "teachers" of the Roux-EN-Y. They are
located in Boston, MA. The program they have is one of the best. They
have done a tremendous amount of these surgeries. Check out their web
site. www.obesityconsult.org I am 18 mos out and have lost a total of 115
lbs. and am way past goal. I now weigh 117. Best of Luck

HELLO I HAD GASTRO BYPASS ON 09-04-07 DURING THE TIME I HAD IT I ALSO HAD A
HIATAL HERNIA THAT HE REPAIRED. NOW I HAVE TWO ULCERS SO TOMORROW I GO IN
AND DO THE GASTRIC BYPASS AGAIN. SO IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU HAD IT
REPAIRED OR NOT IT DOES NOT MAKE ANY HARDER.

I had surgery in 2002 and my doctor completed it including repairing a
hiatal hernia in 1 hour and 15 minutes. I've had no complications. Never
knew it caused complications, so never worried about it. Best to you and
Blessings....

Hi,
I had rny surgery july 2007, I had also had a hernia repair done several
years before. It took longer for my surgery to be done since they have to
undo a surgery, Insurance would not pay for it either but I have not had
any problems at all so far. I would suggest that you talk to your doctor
and a few of his/ or her previous patients that have had the same procedure
done to see if this is some thing your doctor has done before and is
skilled at. I wish you well
