Question:
I had my surgery Nov 27, 2007 I started at 287 and i'm down to 193. I'm having a

hard time eating. After a teaspoon I feel so full, If I get in 200 calories a day that is alot. I only drink 1-2 bottles of water a day. I have not had any hair loss yet, and I feel wonderful. I have lots of energy. I saw the doctor last week and he said my opening may be to small. My levels were good just need to take additonal vitamin A for now. Has anyone had to go back in to adjust the opening or pouch to make it bigger?    — shadow1102 (posted on March 22, 2008)

Wow, that's an amazing amount! Congrats... work on that water, staying hydrated it hard to come back from. I've heard of adjustments being made to the opening but not by anyone I've known personally. Good luck to you.

Congratulations on your weight loss. That is fantastic! I had a revision RNY in December of 2005, but in 1983 I had a gastric stapling. My opening was too tight so my surgeon went back in and made it larger. It was the same recovery process as the original surgery. That was in 1985 and things have changed so much with technology. They may be able to fix your opening now without so much cutting. As always, though, you just need to do whatever your doctor tells you. Good luck with it. Kim

Lot of people have that problem. The healing seals up too much of the pouch opening and you can get sick, so let your doctor check and see if yours is the right size or if it needs to be streached. It is just a simple proceedure where they pout you into a sleeping stage, as an out-patient.

Hi Donna, congratulations on your weight loss. your surgeon may be referring to your stoma being small. Food may stay in your pouch longer than "expected" making you full quickly and keep you full longer. The problem is that after a while 200 calories will become malnutrition for you. Please be careful. Eat more often if you can, and if you cannot consider the stretching. The problem with the stretch of the stoma is that if it gets too big it can make you eat too much, and there is not a way to shrink it again once it stretches too far. not safely anyway. Be careful, and if you can eat more often, I think that is your first defense. Just keep trying, it is a daily battle. Take care. Patricia P.
