Question:
Pill stuck, I think.
I am 2 1/2 mo out. This morning I woke up with a sinus headache and took an Allegra. This was at 5:45am. You have to take it on an empty stomach, one hour brfore eating or 2-3 after. After about 2 hours I tried to eat some cottage cheese for breakfast. After a few bites it was apparent it wasn't going down. This has happened before with food, not a pill. I threw up and 30 minutes later tried to finish it. Still wouldn't go down and that eventually came back up. I waited a while and tried some water. It wouldn't go down either. My question is if it was or is the pill will it ever disolve? It has been 15 hours now and I still can't get anything down except a trickle of water now and then. I will call the doctor in the morning if it is still doing this, but can anyone help? — Tawnda C. (posted on March 20, 2008)

Try some very warm water. If that goes down in a small sip at a time, the
try a little bigger sip of warm water. I have a problem some times in the
morning and think I am chocking or gagging and all I can get up is foamly
slivia. I must swallow it at night during my sleep, but the only way I can
eat or drink is after taking sips of hot water. I too thought something
stuck, but I never took anything other than water when I woke up.

Try sipping on some warm mild tea...Chamomile would be nice and gentle but
any tea would be fine...
I'm four years out and still cannot swallow chunks of anything. I break up
all pills with a few careful bites and a glass of water ready to swallow
any bad tastes quickly...I have tasted some nasty pills and vitamins! But I
got a gel cap stuck once and was miserable until it let go! Tea finally
helped me.
Crush your pills or get a pill splitter...That helps or do like me and
break it carefully in your pointiest teeth and swallow the pieces parts!
Good luck! I hope you feel better...You'll probably feel sore for a few
days! Sorry!

I told someone earlier....First check with your dr. if you can take them
different times instead all at one time. Then find out from them if your
able to split, crush, or maybe even get it in a smaller size pill. All
meds. are so different and I think you should only go by what your Dr. or
even a pharmacy can tell you since they are the experts. I think the
important thing is some meds. have be taken with some kind of food at all
time. So please check with the experts before doing anything. Good Luck!!

BE VERY CAREFUL if you are going to crush or chew ANY of your medications.
People don't always realise that crushing and chewing can break up the
composition of a medicine, and in some instances, turn the medication into
a POISON! Check with your Doctor AND pharmacist -- and if in doubt, don't
crush or chew. It may help to see if the pill is available in a liquid
form. Good luck, and feel better.

Don't wait too much longer to see the doctor. If the pill was stuck, after
15 hours it should have disolved. You now run the danger of becoming
dehydrated. It might just be a coincidence that the pill taking coincided
with a blockage which can not be resolved with warm tea, water, etc. My
friend had exactly the same experience, exactly...She waited a couple of
days and ended up in the hospital with dehydration. Her doctor chewed her
a new one for not calling sooner. 15 hours is too long, call the doctor.
that's part of his post surgical function. I'ts better to be a nervous
nelly that to get sick. My two cents.
Best of luck, keep us posted

Yes, it will dissolve, but throwing up may have caused your throat to
swell. Contact your doc of course. I also take Allegra. I had VSG on
11-25-07 and I have been slicing it since surgery. At first I cut it into
4 parts and I now just cut it in two. Good luck and keep us posted. Pat

You might want to get checked for a stricture. I just had one dilated and
it was a piece of cake. I had the feeling like everything was getting stuck
about halfway down. It didn't last nearly as long as what yours has. Just
an idea.

Besides warm tea or water, try taking your pills with applesauce or yogurt.
When I take pills that aren't easy to go down, I use applesauce and they
go down great! I'm 2 1/2 months out as well.

You could have "pill esophigitis" (spelling?). The pill basically
leaves behind a kind of ulcerated place that makes it feel as if it's still
stuck, even though it's gone. It takes a couple days to get better and just
feels like there is something stuck there. It's awful! I hope it gets
better for you soon.
