Question:
Anyone else have Dr. Mun in Boston, MA?
I've just come from my consultation with Dr. Mun @ Faulkner Hospital and have a surg. date of 1/2/08 or 1/7/08 (it WILL be one of the two but the 1/2/08 date they are waiting to hear if it's been approved as a surgery date..added due to holiday). Starting on Monday I am on the liquid diet (Carnation shakes, fruit, and a greens + protien meal) I'm hoping I can stick to this!! Anyone have an advice? I'd also love to connect to some of Dr. Mun's patients. — fijifruits (posted on December 13, 2007)

Sorry, I am in Florida and do not know your Doctor, but I also went on the
after surgery diet prior to surgery at my own choice. I always have a hard
time losing as I got older it got harder. I started the two week before
surgery diet a month before to see if I could lose the 10 lbs they wanted
off on a normal light diet, but after 2 weeks I had only lost 5 lbs, so on
my own, I took the books and started fixing the stage 2 (3 to 15 days
following surgery) meals, and I was glad I did. First, I was able to take
off another 6 lbs and met that gold, but I learned how and what to cook,
and I practice eating slow, away from the TV and taking 20 minutes to relax
and enjoy a few ounces of food. I tried many different brands of protein
shakes and found the one I liked the best and how to fix it right, so it
was something to look forward to. I had my surgery December 5th and now I
am doing great on the diet at home, and glad I learned what to have in the
house and how to fix it when I was able to focus on a mean plan before
surgery. Don't look at the pre surgery diet as a task, but an opportunity
to create taste that you will like after surgery.
Best to you with your WLS,
Bill

Hi Kristen-
I am three weeks post op RNY with Dr. Mun...I found him initally to be all
business, but that changes as you continue to see him...he certainly shows
his caring side, especially in the hospital...I found the liquid diet
surprisingly ok to deal with, but did add in some string cheese as snacks
since just fruit didn't cut it...I lost 10lbs before the preop visit and
another 4-5 on the liquid diet...
Post surgery I've been doing very well so far..I went back to an active job
after just two weeks...I am now on the ground protein stage and feeling
stronger and stronger each day...the staff at Faulkner was fantastic and I
truly enjoyed my stay there (considering it was a hospital!)...If you have
surgery on the 2nd, that is my bday, so you will have to do well!

Kristen, you can stick with it, just take one day at a time. Success comes
in doing what your doctor tells you to do and fighting the urge to do it
"your own way". If you can't do that Kristen, you need to
re-consider surgery. Surgery is a great tool, but only a tool. I don't
say this to discourage you from surgery, but to tell you the choice YOU are
making is life changing, and you will have to fight to lose your weight, so
start now! Don't wait for surgery and don't wait until someone else helps,
etc. Just get started and fight for your health. It will be the fight of
your life, but worth it in the end.
Take care, Patricia P.

Hi Kristin - I actually had my RNY at Brigham & Women, but a good
friend of mine had Dr. Mun and she really liked him. It was a very
positive experience for her, and she is the one that helped me make my
decision to have the surgery. Good luck!! - Shannon
