Most DEFINITELY!! I am 3 1/2 years postop and have stretched out my pouch due to drinking with eating. Take a fools advice, wait 30 minutes after your meal before you drink anything. I have gained back 80 pounds and am just sick of myself. It is because I stretched my pouch with eating and drinking. Best Wishes, Mickey

I would have to agree. I am 4 years post op and I wish I had listened to what I was told more than I did. Yes, you can learn to do both again. But I don't advise it.

I rarely drink when I eat.. mostly because I can't. It fills me up and then I can't eat. I'm 4 years post op and have recently gained back 10 (lost 150)... I'm pretty sure the 10 pound gain is from birth control! My husband just had a vasectomy so I'll know in a few months if my theory is true!

I am almost 4 years out and when we go to a restaurant I will drink while eating. Normally I sip water all day anyway--and if I need a drink while eating I will. I didn't start this until after a full year out. I have not had any regain from this--however I am pregnant again for the 2nd time so ofcourse I am gaining now. But I don't eat/drink together every time either, just occassionally.

With all do respect to your 1st replier; It is very unlikely that an 80 lb weight gain would be associated with eating and drinking @ the same time. That type of weight gain is usually associated with bad food choices and not exercising. I have asked my doctor specifically if the eating & drinking theory on stretchig the pouch was a myth (?) He told me the reason for not drinking after eating is for the purpose of not flushing the food from the pouch, it is here where the body starts to absorb the nutrients & if it is flushed out too soon, you lose some of those vital nutrients,protein,etc...that our bodies need.My own doctors allows his patients to drink all the way up until they eat; but advises us to wait 30-45 mins after consuming food to drink. Your doctor may give you a different timeline, so it's worth asking your office about his specific wishes. The most common cause of the pouch being stretch is from "OVEREATING"

I AM A LITTLE OVER 2 1/2YRS OUT I MIGHT DRINK A SMALL AMOUNT BEFORE I EAT AND TAKE A SIP OR 2 WHILE I'M EATING BUT I STILL FIND IT HAD TO DRINK A LOT OF LIQUIDS BECAUSE IT FEELS ME UP. I STILL ORDER OFF OF THE KIDS MENU AT RESTAURANTS AND HAVE LEFTOVERS TO TAKE HOME , I LOST 140 IN EXACTLY 1 YEAR & MY WEIGHT GOES UP & DOWN 3-4 LBS DEPENDING ON THE TIME OF THE MONTH.
