well for me it was going to different departments of the hospital, having
bloodwork done, chest x-ray, talking with anesthesiologist etc.....you have
to get "cleared" for surgery and make sure they are ready for you
and know all your history. Good Luck!!!

I too have mine scheduled 2 weeks before surgery. They told me all day and
about 6 different appts. Chest xray, blood work, dietician, surgeon, EKG
ect. I am also trying to work in a Psy visit the same day to maximize my
day and long road trip, as I apparently need one more Psy visit follow up.
Good Luck!!

Everyone has to go through this before they have any surgery. Preop
testing. This is to make sure your whole body is ready for surgery. Good
luck.

I had bloodwork, endoscopy, ekg all in one day....I failed t he ekg, and
all the bloodwork! Still working on getting it under control...I went in on
July 16th and had surgery scheduled for the 31st....HAH! CANCELLED ME! I
also found out that I had full blown diabetes at the same time! GREAT! My
blood was 489, my triglycerides were over 1600 and cholesterol 389....so
basically, that leaves me with a blood type of Land O Lakes (and Godiva on
the side!) oh my!!! lol
Blood is down to under 100 the rest is lowering rapidly as well. I have
been eating beans n sprouts and things to gag on but I need the surgery
urgently! 5'3" 317lbs...

Prior to my surgery I had a EKG, Chest x-ray, blood work and a few other
minor tests to make sure I was able to have the surgery with little
complicatons. Nothing to worry about it is just something that needs to
be done. Good Luck with the tests and the success of the surgery.

Ditto for me, too. The surgeons and anesthesiologists want to make sure you
are healthy enough for surgery. Your insurance company, also, probably
require these tests as well. I had blood test, EKG, pulmonary function test
(I have asthma), blood gas, chest x-ray, and visited with the
anesthesiologist and nurse who ordered my meds for my hospital stay. I also
got to pre-register for admission while I was at it.

Lee, I went for my pre-op on Thursday of last week. But the Dr.s office
took care of scheduling it for me. I guess every office is different.
Pretty much the same story here though. I had to be there at 8 and was
finished at the hospital around 11:30, then had to meet with the
nutritionist at the clinic for some pre-op instructions. Good luck, I pray
all will go well for you. Stephanie

Lee, I think it is common for everyone to have the pre-op testing. It will
include blood work, chest x-ray, etc. It will probably depend on your own
health issues, age, etc., the other tests your doctor may have planned for
you...I had no history of chest pains, heart condition, etc, so they only
did an EKG...again, I think some of what they do will depend on your past
health history. Also, on the day I went, I met with the nutritionist again
as well. Good luck and best wishes on much success!

I was lucky I got all that stuff out of the way. So on my pre-op appt. I
get to see my doc and meet with the anest. Then the 19 days later my
surgery. Good luck
