Question:
1 week post-op have question RE:liquid diet choices/"menu"
Hi I am one week post-op and my diet right now consists of me having two sugar-free carnation instant breakfasts and one isopure 8 ounce protein drink. and thats all i have. I tried pureeing soups but I really did not like the taste and I was just wondering if any one had any suggestions on what they're diets consisted of this early. And don't get me wrong its not like I want an actual meal its just I hate the stuff I'm eating so much I just rather not eat at all and I know that will not help my body heal or obviously help me get the nutrients I need so any suggestions would be helpful THANKS! — pinkr0se (posted on January 30, 2007)

It doesn't sound like you are getting enough. Do you have a nutritionist?
If not you need to call the doctor ASAP and find out what you are supposed
to be having now. I assume you are still on liquids. Make a pot of
chicken soup, that will give you good nutrients, or buy some ready made
chicken soup from the chinese restaurant and strain out the liquid and have
that, sipping slowly. After one week, I was on pureed foods and had
cottage cheese, yogurt, ricotta cheese, etc.

If you go to droliakstore.com you can order meal replacement broth and
garden vegetable soup. These are high in protien along with other
vitamins. You can also try adding a little sugar free jello from the
packets and add some to your vanilla shakes to mix it up a little. I buy
the straberry bannana and cherry. One girl I met puts her powder protien
shake in her coffee.
Good Luck!!

I preferred the HMR500 shakes. They were very tasty. Also you can have
sugar free popcicles, lots of broth, and try to have high protein low carb
things. Try different juices, and chew on some Flinstone vitamins so you
can get something in you to help you with the nuturients right now.
Good luck

We were on clear liquids for 4 weeks, so at this stage, I had only
proteins. This is what I use today. Any of these are what I use:
1.) Champion ProScore 100 choco + 8 oz water + ice, blended (hand blender
or Magic Bullet).
2.) Champion Pure Whey Stack choco + 6-8 oz water, shaken.
3.) IDS vanilla-cinnamon + "glop" of DaVinci sugar free caramel
sauce + 8 oz water + ice, blended.
4.) the PWS chco + the van-cin (50/50) in about 10 oz hot water, stirred or
hand blender.
Lately I've been adding a shake of cinnamon to my hot ones since cinnamon
fights belly fat.
I always put 1 scoop of UpCal D powder in (500mg calcium citrate, 250 IU of
vit D3).

I just came from my nutrition class, they suggusted yogurt with
BeneProtien, sugarfree pudding and adding powderprotien, slimfast with
protien skim milk with two teaspoons carnation instant dry milk.
The Bennefiber can be purchasued on line at Walgreens and I was told it is
one of the best because there is absolutely no taste or grit. Call and
speak with your MD for some ideas they are always willing to help

I am still on liquids (for 3 more weeks ) and one thing I enjoy is cream
of wheat made with nf milk, but thin and runny. It's pretty good and makes
me feel like I'm "eating" something, just make sure it's not
thick or lumpy. I like the variety pack because I like the strawberry
flavored one and the others... the only one I can't eat yet is the apple
one because it has chunks of apples. I also have Isopur protein powder in
vanilla that I make a shake with nf milk, 2 scoops powder, ice, sugar free
coconut syrup... and it's sooo yummy!! Plus I get my protein. I also use
sugar free chocolate syrup, sugar free kaluha syrup and will sometimes put
a small scoop of instant decaf coffee in it too... makes it taste like a
mocha shake... kind of... lol you know what I mean!! The Isopur protein
drinks were great for me too that first week or two because it was
basically all I wanted and I would have energy after I drank them, so I
would keep drinking those too. DOn't forget your vitamins!!! :) Oh, also
I got canned peaches and nf cottage cheese and blended them together with a
packet of splenda and a little milk (to make it thin enough) and it was
good, tasted kinda like cheescake. :) Hope I helped!

When I had my surgery, a little over two years ago, my doctor required a
clear liquid diet for two weeks after. My favorite thing was the different
broths, like chicken and beef. They told me that at this point the lack of
protein was not a problem. I wish you well!

A Baker is correct. Don't worry about not getting enough at this stage.
Listen to your lack of hunger. It is a good thing. And if you want some
good soup, get it from the local chinese food place. Their clear broth is
fresh. The canned stuff you bought probably tastes like the can. LOL You
could even try egg-drop soup, which will give you some protein.
Congratulations and good luck.
