Question:
Only 2 months post-op and I think I have an ulcer

I feel like I am starving all the time. My stomach is constantly rumbling. I am allready taking prilosec. The doctors say that the rumbling in my stomach is normal but I feel like there is something wrong. Is it possable to develop an ulcer this soon after surgery?    — angel19 (posted on January 18, 2007)

I don't know if it is possible, but I can tell you, that there is a volcano in my tummy at times too. I don't even think ulcer, I think gas. Try eating more protein and see if that helps with the hunger. Make sure that you have 3 meals a day and snacks to stop hunger! Good luck, Diane

My wife had an ulcer only a month after surgery. It came with incredible pain. If it isn't painful, it is probably just gas. I would check with the doctor though.

I felt hungry often right from the get go as well. To this day (1 1/2 years post op my stomach rumbles and makes strange sounds. It is VERY difficult to get an ucler while taking prilosec (or protonix, aciphex, nexium, prevacid). Do not take NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, aspirin at high doses, naproxen, etc). An ulcer usually hurts quite a bit like an "gnawing pain". Good luck!

Angela, have they done a "scope" on you to confirm an ulcer? I am almost 3 years out, and at about 6 months I had the same thing as you. I take protonix, and it is under control, but I have an ulcer, and I am afraid it is here to stay. It is a side affect of the surgery for some, and I was one, but that is my only real complication. The stomach rumbling is completely normal. Obesity Angela is a head issue with a body consequence. You are gonna think you are hungry all the time, that you should eat more, that you NEED more food. The head fools the body all the time. The surgery fixed a great tool for you, but your worst enemy is the brain, that you have to fight to get the results you want. Food is just food, and if you eat wise, you will do fine, water, protein and exercise, that is the start. If you are missing any one element, you are cheating youself of your best result. Water, protein and exercise. Check with your doctor and don't fixate on the rumble, if something is really wrong, pain will be an indicator (not hunger pain, but real pain), not rumbling. Keep your bowels moving (water, water, water) and exercise helps that a lot too. Start walking, so something, get moving, and your body will move with you. If you can't train your mind on your own, get books, join weight watchers, do something to make you accountable to what you head and to train your mind to do right. Be sure to see your doctor about the ulcer though, I would ask them to scope it if you want to know for sure. I did, and even though it was another sugical procedure, I am glad they did. Take care, best to you. Patricia P

The rumbling is normal. I am two years out, and my stomach still is noisy. It isn;t even gas, just my stomach working. I usually have it after a meal. Make sure you get all your protein in, and do not eat many carbs, because carbs make you want more carbs.
