Question:
I had wls 6 weeks ago how much should I have lost by now?
I am 5feet 4 inches and my starting weight two weeks before surgery was 264. I am down to 232 and don't feel this is enough of a loss. — llafount (posted on December 26, 2006)

Everyone is different and the weight loss and rate of weight loss will be
different.
I had my surgery 3 months ago and i am down to 220. that is a 55 lb loss
for me. give it a chance and follow the doctors orders. you'll do fine.

First of all you cannot compare your loss to others. Everyone's body is
different. I think you are doing great! You have lost more than 5 lbs a
week in 6 weeks and that should be commended! I am down about 4lbs a week
on the average and I am thrilled. Keep following your doctor's orders and
start or continue exercising and you will see results! You need to be
patient. Remember you didn't gain this weight overnight and you will not
lose it overnight.

Hi LeAnne- I am 5'4 also and started out at 263. After 5 wks I was about
the same weight loss as you at 6 weeks. Don't get discouraged. If you're
following the program your doctor has given you, then the weight WILL fall
off. It will be 2 years in April for me and I have lost almost 130 pounds!
Don't give up. It will happen! Good luck and congratulations!

Sounds to me like you're either right on track or even a little faster than
most. I was told by my doctor that I would lose about 20 lbs. a month for
the first 6 months or so, and he was right on...that comes from someone who
was 395 the day of surgery and down to 274 6 months later.
You sound like you're averaging about the same...so keep up the good work!!
Congratulations on your success!!

I had surgery Nov 7 and I have lost about 30lbs so you are right in there
with me. My Dr. said the larger we are the more we will loose at first. I
dont care I will take as much as I can get. Keep up the good work.

I really don't understand why you're disappointed. You've already lost 12%
of your beginning weight! I started much higher than you - about 360 - and
lost about the same weight as you in 6 weeks. By the end of my first year,
I'd lost 162 pounds and I lost another 30 pounds in the second year.
Remember, it doesn't matter where you are right now, in the beginning of
your journey - it matters where you end up and how you maintain! You're
doing great!

Are you kindding? 32 pounds in six weeks is wonderful! That is much more
than I lost in that time period! That is more than five pounds a week!

Sometimes LeAnne we get so involved with the fact that we have a tool that
can really work for us, that we get greedy and sidetracked and want more
than our body can do. If you are already cheating, your body will tell the
tale. Obesity is a head issue with a body consequence. If you are doing
what your doctors say, water, protein, and especially exercise, than you
are right on track for your body. Don't look at the number, just enjoy the
benefits of losing weight consistently for perhaps the first time in your
life. I am almost 3 years out and have kept off 120 pounds, but I lost it
at about 2-4 pounds per week the entire time, it was no miracle ride. I
walked 5 miles a day, drank water and eat small amounts of food/protein.
It was hard work that paid off wonderfully, but it was no easy time or
ride. You will fight for some pounds, and some will just disappear, some
at the beginning, some when you least expect it. The important thing is to
be consistent in your doing well and obeying the instructions you were
given. It is about a life change, not a quick fix. You are doing
wonderful, don't discount that, appreciate it, and keep working at good
changes in your behavior with food/drink. Best to you. Patricia P

I had surgery on November 29th, 2006, and when I went back for my first
check up I had lost 33 pounds, then I went to my doctor this past Tuesday,
and I was at the same weight, Then I realized that It is bearly a month so
I am doing great, and so are you, just have to get an exercise regimen
going now.

Just try and be patient. And, set your goals low. Some lightweights do
not experience the tremendous weight loss as others. Just an obesity
question that remains unanswered. Good Luck.
