Question:
Diabetic concerns
I am 2 wks away from my RNY surgery and I am diabetic , I have been told to stop my Glucovance, an I am having trouble keeping my numbers right. The doctor advanced my insulin but it does not seem to be helping. Does anyone have any suggestions? — George E. (posted on May 13, 2006)

You need to call the Dr and make some adjustment to the Insulin. You also
need to watch what you are eating. I was a type 2 diabetic before WLS and I
am no longer considered diabetic. I am a normal person with 150+ Lbs of
weight loss and maintaining a good health for 10 years.
Good luck to you

one thing you must understand, is that we are not medical doctors. you
MUST listen to your PCP or your surgeron.

Hi I understand your concern about the elevated BS just let your surgeon
know that it's up. Do exactly as your physican instructs. Even post-op
your BS will be up until your weight starts to come off requiring you to
take insulin very regularly. Mine was in the 300's right after surgury in
the hospital. I'm almost 3 months post-op and take insulin on a sliding
scale 4 times a day now. My BS are now in the 140's to 150's most of the
time. When my bs consistantly stays below 120 then I can stop the insulin
period. Watch your carb intake now till surgury then follow the eating plan
to the Letter and you will be fine. Good Luck!
