Question:
I am 5 years post-op, RNY open. Does anyone ever feel like
something square is going down a round hole? Sometimes about 30 minutes (more or less) after eating, I feel like something gets stuck and it HURTS. I hold my arms up, stretch, lay down, everything just to "help" it pass and within a few minutes it does -- does anyone else experience this? If so, have you asked your doctor about it? What is it? I do have another hernia just below my sternum, but don't know if that has anything to do with it. — Betty Todd (posted on February 10, 2006)

It sounds like the pain I had when my gallbladder had to be removed at 10
months post op. I'm surprised your's lasted this long, IF that is what it
is.

Hi, Im over 3 years RNY, I dont have the pain you describe, but most times
when I eat spaghetti it feels like Im swollowing a knife, it really hurts,
then alot of times when I take a sip of any type of liquid, right after
swallowing it I get this sharp pain in my gut,, boy we RNYers have some
strange pains at times,, good luck in finding out what yours is,, PS. I had
3 hernias and never had pain with mine....

What an interesting way to describe that sensation. I do get that feeling
from time to time, to me it feels more like a mutant gas bubble.

You need to have this checked out by an actual doctor. There are multiple
possibilities. You could have a stricture or even an ulcer. Get thee to a
doctor straight away!

Absolutely! If I don't chew enough or eat something too heavy like bread,
it gets literally stuck and everything starts to back up. THe pain feels
like a heart attack almost. Unfortunately, when it hits the only thing I
can do is throw it up. I pretty much know how to prevent it now (I am 3.5
yrs post op), but like I said, I have to throw it up if it does happen.
Its just because I ate something too heavy or too fast that cannot go down
through my pouch.
