Question:
Flaky scalp?
I've never had dandruff, but I am 2 months post op and have terrible flaky scalp. It itches sometimes, not too badly, it's the embarrassing never-ending flakes that are annoying. Anyone else have this? What's the solution? Thanks! — Ava L. (posted on January 20, 2006)

Have you used any dandruff shampoo? Are we even allowed too? I do think
that it is okay to use. I like Selsun Blue or Nutragena

I have also had this really bad and to be honest thought it might be my
thyroid out of whack. I'm interested to know what, if anything, you find
out!

It could be dandruff or psoriasis. Neutrogena T-gel or the generic Wal
mart brand works wonderful and yes you can use it after surgery. 3 weeks
prior to surgery I started breaking out with some weird skin issues. The
surgeon told me to get it under control before he would operate. As it
turned out it was psoriasis that only comes to the surface when my body is
completely stressed out. At almost 10 months post op I can honestly say
the psoriasis has been gone for about 5 months. Initially your body is
under major undue stress and hormones are going nuts, so don't get worried
use the shampoos if it's really bad go to a dermatologist and let him
prescribe a treatment. Good luck with your journey.

I too have been suffering with very dry scalp and dry skin...all the
changes that are going on are rough on the delicate balances in our bodies,
one suggestion is water water water...make sure you are getting plenty of
fluids, and the reduction in fat in our diets also has an effect...I bought
a conditioner with tea tree oil, it has helped greatly, I also use Head and
shoulders for dry scalp....still I get some itching and flaking, but it has
helped quite a bit..I have had many friend that had surgery and all went
thru this time....2 of them are over their year mark and the dryness has
subsided. If it does get worse, or the itching intense speak to your
dcotor and let them have a look...can't hurt. Good luck to you, I am now 1
month post -op and am still amazed at how each day brings new things, and
looser clothes.... ALLY

hey... i've always had oily hair, i washed my hair everyday, if not twice
sometimes... but the last 3 weeks its been dry and itchy and i've been
getting dandruff too...so i tried a home remedy which honestly helped... i
used mayo, egg whites, and olive oil.. beat it together and put it in your
hair, then wrap your head (not your face too :) ) in plastic wrap... it
does smell, i'm not gonna lie, but whe you wash it out use shampoo and
conditioner... my friend who's a swimmer does it b/c the chlorine dries her
hair out.. hope that helped a little
