Question:
HOW MUCH IS THE AVERAGE TUMMY TUCK?

I am down 52 pounds and I still have 41 to go and I know this stomach will never go down the way it should be no matter what so I am just checking to see what is the average cost of getting a tummy tuck? I have a small apron and I am flabby in all my mid section so I am guessing what I need is called a tummy tuck, right?    — DBXX (posted on September 26, 2003)

I recently looked into a 'tummy tuck.' I am carrying about 25 lbs in my stomach area alone so I have a ton of redundant skin. The surgeon I saw would give me a full abdominalplasty (can't spell!) with an unsidedown T incision--this would take care of the apron and the flabby stuff under the boobs. This procedure with this surgeon would run about $5500.00. Now the full body lift with the abs. fanny lift, hip lipo and thighplasty would run about $14,000 at the same office. BTW, I'm in POrtland, OR and this surgeon is very popular with the WLS folk here!

I used to do medical review on PS and found that it is so different from state to state. If you live CA or NY it is almost double from say the south. It can even vary from Dr to Dr in the same state. Here in MN, one charges $5,500 and another $12,000. You'll have to find the surgeon you want and see what he/she charges to know for sure.

My quotes for plastics were $12,500.00 for the tummy tuck and $7,500.00 for the thigh lift. That included the hospital and anesthesia. If I do them together it brings it down to about $13,000.00. Quite a savings. As far as what you need I think that you should wait until you are at your goal to have a professional decide how much skin you need removed and what the proper procedure for you is. Some things can change a lot as you lose the weight.

Neenah WI - I was given $5000 panniculectomy, $7000 abdomnioplasty, about $10,000 belt lipectomy, and in my case the upper part of an abdominoplasty (an anatomy issue) around $4000. The PS has submitted to BCBS and I am waiting for a final answer. They have asked for additional info, so we will see. I'm not holding my breath though as I have no skin issues just severe lumbar degenerative disc disease which the neurosurgeon has written a letter indicating that getting rid of the apron etc. will definitley benefit me. We will see what BCBS feels. I will most likely go with the belt lipectomy and then the upper procedure for a total of $14-15,000. If insurance can cover the cost of the abdomnoplasty then I am hoping I can just pay the difference. It would appear these two procedure will put me in pretty good stead without other leg surgery etc. The arms could stand to be done but not a high priority for me. If I have $3000 laying around sometime then maybe. <p>I am 68 lbs from goal, down 174, and may be forced to decide to have surgery by the end of the year if the approval won't carry over into next year. To save $7000 I probably would do it and if in the future things needed to be tightened up a little would deal with that then. If I could reach at least 240 (28 lbs away) then I don't think it would be too bad. He figures I have about 15 lbs of stuff to remove.

My doctor did a full abdominoplasty for $4200. This did not include the surgery room or anesthesiologist. Add another $3000 total for that.
