Question:
HAS ANYONE EVER HAD A BABY AFTER SURGERY OR KNOW ANYONE WHO HAS?
I'VE READ TO WAIT AT LEAST A YEAR BUT WANTED TO HEAR FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS HAD A BABY AFTER SURGERY — TINA V. (posted on March 14, 2003)

My daughter weighed 406 lbs. and had a BMI of 70 before her very successful
and uncomplicated lap RNY. Twenty months later, after a 220 lb. weight
loss, she got married and became pregnant on the honeymoon, and has since
given birth to a beautiful baby girl. Before her WLS she had always had
very irregular and infrequent periods and had been told that is was
unlikely that she could ever conceive....surprise!! Our bariatric surgeon
recommended that her OB/GYN double the prenatal vitamins and check a
complete metabolic panel every two months during the pregnancy. All lab
values stayed within normal limits and the pregnancy was full-term and
uncomplicated. Best wishes!

Hi Tina. My girlfriend had Open RNY in August 2000 and had a healthy baby
boy(6lbs 11oz.) October of 2002. Her pregnancy was uncomplicated and she
carried to full term. She did very well with the delivery as well. I hope
that helps.

I know of at least 2 women in my state who have recently had babies
post-op. Both moms and both babies are doing fine. There is a Yahoo group
devoted to post-WLS pregnancy. Go to www.yahoo.com, choose groups and then
search on OSSG pregnancy.

Jen had severe PCOS pre op. We are hoping this will improve and we can have
some kids. Our support group has a bunch postie babies. We want to add to
that. Be warned the loss makes some turned on and very fertile. Try to
avoid pregnancy for at least a year to keep the mother and baby healthy.
Ooops I am 3 months amnd pregnant is pretty common here.

I am due on May 2nd. I am 2.5 years out- and also a PCOS victim
(sufferer?). I'm with Bob, please WAIT until your surgeon says it's OK.
