Question:
AFTER SURGERY HAS EVERYONE BEEN ABLE TO BE VERY ACTIVE OR DO YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFULL

DO YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU DO FOREVER OR IS IT KINDA LIKE HAVEING A C-SECTION, AFTER IT HEALS UP YOU ARE BACK TO NORMAL? IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CANT DO BECAUSE OF THIS SURGERY?    — DBXX (posted on November 23, 2002)

The only restriction after my lap RNY was not to lift more than 15 lbs. for the first six weeks. Immediately post-op, I was instructed to start a walking program, and gradually increase my time/mileage as tolerated during those first six weeks. After that, I was released to do any type of exercise that I chose. I joined a gym and worked out on the Nautilus machines, treadmill, stair-stepper and joined a beginner's aerobic class 3-5 days a week. I am 32 months post-op and at goal and have never had any activity-related problems. Good luck!

I am 14 months out (and 142 pounds) . . . and am more active than I have been at any time in my adult life. There is nothing I can't do. Good luck to you!

Two months after open RNY I was diving in Norway with orca's. After you are healed and can do anything you did before surgery plus lots of new things.

I am six-weeks post-op on Monday (11/25). When I saw my doc on the 14th for my one-month checkup I asked him when I could start working out and he told me whenever I want. I've been walking on my treadmill for 30 minutes every day since I got out of the hosp. and some days now I walk for an hour. I feel great and other than the little scars and non-obsession with food now, I can't even tell I've had the surgery. --Pam Nicholson

4 months post-op and can do everything I did pre-op PLUS! It's wonderful! Healed as well as my c-section so that I wouldn't even know I had the surgery except for the occasional phantom pain (just like I had with both c's) and all the food still on my plate when I'm full :>)

I followed my doc's instructions to not lift anything over 10 lbs for the first month... was able to drive 2 days out of hospital ( only restriction was to not drive if taking the narcotic pain med they sent me home with)... have been walking and started water aerobics a week ago I am now almost 8 weeks postop.

I joined a softball team 6 weeks after my surgery and had a blast. I'm now playing full court basketball and have absolutely no restrictions whatsoever. It's all good!

Hey. I had S*E*X* and went swimming less than 2weeks out! At almost 3 months out, I do the opposite of "being careful". I PUSH IT. And I have NEVER felt better!
