Question:
Is the RNY the same as the Fobi pouch operation?
I AM KIND OF CONFUSED. IS THE RNY PROCEDURE A TOTALLY DIFFERENT ONE FROM THE FPO (FOBI POUCH OPERATION)? I DO KNOW (I THINK, I DO.) THAT WITH THE FPO, THE STOMACH IS TOTALLY DETACHED. THE OPEN RNY? WHAT IS THAT? ALL THESE PROCEDURES ARE CONFUSING ME AGAIN.... I THOUGHT IN THE BEGINNING THAT I MUST HAVE THE FOBI POUCH. NOW, I AM ASKING MYSELF IF THE EXTRA $4,000 OUT OF POCKET MONEY THAT I WILL HAVE TO PAY IS REALLY NECCESSARY TO ACHIEVE AND MAINTAIN MY WEIGHT LOSS OF 230 POUNDS. CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH THESE QUESTIONS? — KATHLEEN P. (posted on August 25, 2001)

i have had a consult with dr fobi. what a sweetheart he is!!! the way i
understand his surgical procedure is this...it is basically an rny with his
own variations included. he totally dissects the stomach. he places a ring
around a part of the pouch for 'volume' control of the food passing thru
the pouch. there r other things he does which i cant recall right now. the
university of iowa is doing a 10 year study of his patients & their
statistics so far show a very low percentage of complications in his
patients with a very high percentage of successful weight loss & goal
weight maintenance. u can research dr fobi by typing fobi into ur search
engine. i have a surgery date of sept 3 with him but he wants 7k dollars up
front & i dont have it. if i did, i would absolutely have it done by
him.
